I have dogs. More accurately my dogs have a human valet, if you do not want 40 million pictures of dogs this is not a feed for you.
I also like wandering around looking at trees.
I’m not here to argue, debate club clowns get blocks.

The reason the dogs aren't around, and you've probably never heard about them, is because they were deliberately targeted as part of Indigenous genocide. But they used to be a precious source of wealth for women. www.smithsonianmag.com/smithsonian-...
What Happened to the Extinct Woolly Dog?
Researchers studying the 160-year-old fur of a dog named Mutton in the Smithsonian collections found that the Indigenous breed existed for at least 5,000 years before European colonizers eradicated it

I really very much want a path back to government officials speaking like sober adults in very responsible and difficult jobs which is also accompanied by those government officials pursuing their work with vigor and passion.

I am honestly starting to compile a list of hardcopy reference texts I need to purchase.
my 3rd grader is describing projects and I recently realized, oh god, they are doing searches and being delivered trash and they have no reference point to understand how to assess or sift; the only way is to return to the encyclopedia or similar, at least as a foundation

I really did not appreciate enough those golden days of ancient time when the copy on the White House website was easily distinguishable from the Time Cube site.

In the wake of all the news coming out of the US and the amount of shouting at the TV I've done, I thought everyone else might benefit from one of my favourite photos from 2017 to break up the doom scrolling.

I cannot fix the big things, so here's a small thing.

The number of gaming stores I have walked in & immediately walked back out because the vibe was toxic is a very large number.

I paint warhammer, you WANT me in your store.
I spent an excessive number of years moderating a gaming forum and I learned a great deal about community spaces and cultivation, whether I wanted to or not. I have critical advice for anyone who runs a game store or gaming convention. Please share this thread with people who run those things.

Always plug your space heater into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension cord. Many power strips and extension cords are not designed to handle the power needs of a heater. The strips/cords will meltdown and start fires. Many people learning this for the first time thanks to this local icon.

somebody at UChicago is feeding preprints to LLMs without authors' consent, in a research study

they have the gall to suggest to authors they've opted-in that they volunteer to evaluate the LLMs' suggestions regarding their own work.
