Having a baby is such an immediate change to your life it's difficult to come to terms with. Making the change is like being trapped wandering through a liminal space corridor.

My most woke opinion is that the whole point of society is to collectively help each other. My taxes should be going towards housing and feeding everyone. No one should be without food or shelter. Rich people should be contributing more towards this. It shouldn't even be controversial!

I think the message to take from the Elon Musk vs Joyce Carol Oates situation is that "you are bigot who's caused the deaths of thousands" is a reality Musk is comfortable with.
But "you are a friendless loser with no hobbies" is not.

I maintain faking wellness is both more common and more problematic than faking sickness, and a downright danger to others if your sickness is infectious.
Also I note that the whole 'make it harder to get sick notes' thing successive governments have pushed relies on the assumption people're just faking ill, because if you're too ill to work and you can't get a sick note, in reality you'll either get fired, quit, or work yourself into the hospital.
If the government really wants to tackle the whole 'a whole pile of folks are off sick' thing, they could start by treating sick and disabled people as *people,* not broken office equipment. Oh, and acknowledging that post-viral disabilities are real, and covid happened, that'd be a start.

Publishing is a broken system, and most individuals can't fix a whole-ass system, but a thread of ways you can support marginalized authors.
You should be concerned about the rate of authors leaving publishing. Especially from marginalized communities. This year I have seen so many authors just pack it up and go. And it's only getting worse.
