I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.
This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

To add another layer to this: many operational system run by the NWS are supported by Cooperative Institute personnel. For example, the Hazard Services system that the NWS uses to issue watch/warning/advisory products (think svr tstorm/tornado warnings) is basically entirely supported by CI staff.
If they close all these research labs, you can't just undo it four years later.
Decades of expertise and tons of specialized equipment will be scattered to the wind. Rebuilding would take ages.
