I see, fighting antisemitism by putting Jewish names on a list and giving it to the government so they can decide punishment.

Everyone seems allergic to the word, but Charlie Kirk was not an activist, he was a propagandist. Turning Point was a meme factory backed by a billionaire designed to steer kids towards Christian Nationalism. He didn’t advocate for policy; he spun narratives to change beliefs. Propaganda.

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.

As usual with these dust-ups she is retreating to the ‘compromise’ position that sporting bodies should make standards about transition.

The problem is that THIS HAS ALREADY HAPPENED. Standards have been in place for years. Lia Thomas met them! The bigots don’t care.
Lol. She fucking apologized to Riley Gaines.

I knew staying out of praising her for the weakest of allyship while partially throwing trans people under the bus was the right choice.

It’s odd to me that “we need to restore Christian values to Europe” is not coded as anti-Semitic even though it is, quite literally, anti-semitism’s original form.

Notice too how the most fervent advocates of the lab leak were also advocates of herd immunity via mass infection.

They treat infection #1 as a crime and catastrophe to distract from how they tried to encourage every infection after that.

That’s the purpose of the lab leak for many.
The Nation was spoon-fed documents from a bad-faith Republican House committee and covered them as if they were a scandal.

The more I look into the lab leak the more shocked I am at how desperately the media tried to launder the theory into something respectable.

What a summary of the anti-trans movement:

March 23rd: female fencer competes in mixed-gender event, beating several male competitors, finishing 8th

March 30th: same fencer films herself telling trans competitor “I am refusing to fence you, because I am a woman and you are a man,” collects $5000

one of the most baffling parts of this. I spent the last decade or so prepping to make the "first they came for ethnic studies" version of the Niemoller point to libs. while they did (see the CRT offensive and book bans) I absolutely did not think children's cancer researchers would be next in line
Someone really needs to point out to Bret Stephens types that burning down the entire university to get to the ethnic studies department is unlikely to work, because lots of people who would otherwise throw them to the wolves now see themselves as de facto on the same side as them.

Call it anecdotal, but my Canadian friends who are cancelling their US travel are not doing it because of tariff worries at all; they’re doing it because the US government is currently actively threatening Canada’s sovereignty and economy and they’re all justifiably furious
This is exactly why Canadians are fed up with US media.

A segment on Canadians cancelling Vermont vacations. Mentions tariffs but not (1) who started the trade war or (2) that the US is constantly threatening to ANNEX our country!

This isn’t MAGA. It’s not FOX. It’s a random NBC affiliate.

this denial of empathy/shared fate is politically useful. consider how “the end of the pandemic” was produced—a combination of cutting public programs and resources and “you do you” propaganda that had people acting like other people masking somehow hurt them
one curious feature of our particular dismal political era: some people have gotten so addicted to the particular vice signaling around empathy / concern for other people that they seem to see evidence that something will benefit others as evidence that it will harm them
Anyway, this is about as gross and anti-social a statement from an antivaxxer as you'll find, but also probably pretty par for the course

I think what this shows is that most people aren't actually anti-vax, they're just extremely obstinate about being asked to do anything even slightly inconvenient when they don't see an immediate benefit for themselves
In Texas, said one doctor: “We’ve vaccinated multiple kids that have never been vaccinated before, some from families that didn’t believe in vaccines.”

A common argument for making gender-affirming healthcare harder to access is that people may undergo it and regret it.

Gatekeeping appears to actually make this *worse*, not better, because it incentivises people to lie to get treatment.
Gatekeeping does NOT benefit detrans people.

Our paper on gatekeeping and detransition is now out! I’m immensely hyped for this paper, written in collaboration with wondrous scholars and including co-authors who have lived experience with detransition.

Again: Many of Canada's universities have aggressively restricted or frozen hiring because the govt decided to run a lot of universities on international student tuition, and then decided to cap international students suddenly.
Hey American scientists and researchers, Canada has great universities and research institutions. The Canadian government has funding available for cutting edge research.
GOC, lets become a scientific and research hub, and give these scientists a place to continue their groundbreaking work!
