I want to finally do a video on sidewalk plows and the problem of leaving snowy sidewalks to homeowners.

If anyone has examples of poorly cleared sidewalks that I can use, attach them here!

Important: mention the city. Also, preferred attribution (if any). Otherwise, default is screen name.

Imagine looking around at American politics in 2025 and concluding that the zoning reform dweebs are the people you really have to worry about.
sometimes you just need to take a step back and marvel at the absurdity that is the left-NIMBY mindset

these are not normal, rational people. they have descended into a bespoke form of madness

While Outremont recently decided to remove a bike lane for winter, the new borough mayor of CDN—NDG has decided that the contentious Terrebonne bike path will stay... for now.

Get this: residents blamed the bike path for an incident where a driver left his door open and it got hit by a bus!
Terrebonne St. bike path will stay this winter, Valenzuela says
"Our approach is simple: Listen carefully, rebuild trust in the process and make decisions based on facts, safety and community needs," borough mayor Stéphanie Valenzuela says.

#Montreal 's just leap-frogged other cities in North America by opening the REM.

Automated. Electric. Frequent (2.5 minute headways). Fast (100 km/h plus). Cheap to build. (One tenth the price of other systems)

And really fun to ride...

It's not just that the United States has stopped trying to promote liberal democratic ideas internationally. It's that the United States is actively trying to promote the contrary. It's trying to turn more countries into Hungary.

Guelph, Ontario (a small city near Toronto) votes against providing cyclists the same basic winter services that are provided to drivers and pedestrians.
Motion fails 6-7.

Gibson, Richardson, Guthrie, Billings, Chew, Busutill, Hauser vote against.

This is huge news in the brewing world. I guess it makes sense. An institution that educates brewers from all over the world needs to be located in a liberal democracy, a country that is open to the world.

The Siebel Institute is relocating from Chicago to Montreal.

I think a lot of nominally progressive people from big powerful countries just cannot really wrap their heads around the value of proper national independence for small countries. Sort of like chocolate sprinkles on a cappuccino, nice but no sense causing a fuss over.

“Small countries must tiptoe around the sensibilities of big violent nuclear powers or else they’ll get what’s coming to them“ is a bizarre kind of brain worms that often passes itself off as anti-imperialism.

Nearly always said by people from nuclear power bully countries like the US or Russia!
Now consider that if Ireland continues to more aggressively align themselves with western interests (which have a positively amazing record of respecting national sovreignty) what would an opposing power feel the need to do to that subordinate state?

Until reading this just now, I actually thought American Thanksgiving happened last week because that’s when all the Black Friday deals appeared.

Black “Friday” is more like two weeks of November!
Somehow made it thru event & then writhed on friend’s couch for 72 hours. I have boycotted Brooklyn ever since.

I periodically tell friend, years later, to explain & apologize to her friends. They said they noticed but understand & chuckle about it.)

Happy thanksgiving to America.

Montreal’s busiest bike route is facing a disruptive multi-year construction detour.

A temporary alternative is now being built, chosen because of hills and connections.

Many businesses are complaining (“we weren’t consulted!”) and the new bike-skeptical administration is promising to re-evaluate.

New episode! We examine how Canada's fiscal system has become increasingly tilted toward older generations, leaving millennials and Gen Z to face higher costs, fewer supports, and growing financial strain.

Thanks to @taras-grescoe.com for calling it a “light metro” instead of light rail 👍

“Riding that train made me feel like Canada was finally building transit fit for the 21st century, a worthy counterpart to the systems that are now common in Asian and European cities.”

I can’t find great US data, but in Canada it ranges from 68% of people in BC using winter tires to 100% in Quebec (where they’re mandatory).

A bad day for Canada, and therefore the world.

Ontario (population 16 million, 40% of the country) has passed new legislation prohibiting bike lanes that take a lane from cars.

An escalation from Bill 212, which required municipalities to get approval.
A sad day for cyclists. Bill 60 - which prohibits the conversion of motor vehicle lanes to bike lanes (or any other prescribed purpose) - has passed Third Reading this morning which will kill various cycling projects in Toronto & across Ontario. #shame #BikeTO #BikeSky #TOpoli #ONpoli #VisionZero
