I had to buy new watercolor brushes for Affinity but they worked okay. I like painting in Procreate more. Feels better. I'll give it another go when I can get a more powerful iPad

I like double-page spreads because they let you pretend you did more work than you actually did

Not without a huge hassle! Looks like I'm starting over

I guess we're going to see if I can convert my Procreate brushes to Affinity so I can use them on my Mac
January 10, 2026 at 11:09 PM
hummm. This spread is too big for Procreate to allow me more than one layer

I use a lot of fonts from @blambot.bsky.social mixed with hand lettering for SFX, too. A lot of his fonts are free for indie comics use, and the rest are very reasonably priced.

Depends on what you want! If it's important to you to have a custom lettering style, then it's probably worth it. I've made a few lettering fonts for specific projects when I knew exactly what I wanted the lettering to look like.

I revised the pose so his hand wouldn't be in front of his face. This is our first look at the hero of the story!

pretty jazzed about this gesture drawing

my income is near zero at the moment, so I really need to get that going before I can seriously look, but prices have gone up pretty significantly since the last time I bought a mac.

we've got a lot of unpopulated federally-managed land
January 10, 2026 at 6:14 PM
I agree with this completely but I'm pretty sure my home state of Oregon takes more federal money than it pays in taxes
It’s past time for Blue State governors from CA, NY, IL, MN, WA, OR, MA etc filling up fed coffers with tax revenues to have discussions on what can a “blue state compact” look like exploring practicable soft secession - ie escrow accounts for tax payers from those states.
What is the point of appropriations if the White House can just cut off spending against its enemies?

Taste aside, everyone's criticizing this for being ai but I'm pretty sure it's a photoshop. The grain would be cleaned up and the trucks wouldn't all be identical down to the shape of the shadows if it were ai-generated

Nobody needs things wiggling around on their screen for no reason
January 10, 2026 at 6:06 PM
Pretty much the only time my phone screen is in my eyeline when I'm listening to music is when I'm driving and my phone is sitting in its cradle on my dash. The animated covers are incredibly distracting. I turned them off in settings as soon as I saw my first one.

Animals are neat. Some are very big, like an elephant. Some are small enough that you can keep them in your house.

Yeah, I definitely ought to do a trade-in.

I think the Mac Studio will be the best replacement, probably last me a little longer. Expensive, tho
January 10, 2026 at 5:13 PM
I bought the Mac Mini in January 2020 when I decided Apple wasn't going to introduce a real replacement for my 2008 Mac Pro, and figured I could replace it in five years or so when it started to chug. Well, it's starting to chug
January 10, 2026 at 5:13 PM
Last night I realized that both my iPad (2018) and my Mac Mini (2020) are nearing the ends of their useful lives. Now I need to find $5000 not earmarked for housing, food, medical care, or utilities in order to replace them
