I love that he's explaining the housing crisis from the landlord perspective
Trump: If we build more housing, the price of homes will go down, and homeowners will lose their wealth.

I appreciate folks following the breadcrumb trail and not trying to jump to conclusions, but I’m not bound by those rules and I think “a media toady nuking a story about American concentration camps” is pretty self-explanatory

it's baffling how...dumb Bari Weiss is. like, how did you think this was going to go. how did you think this was going to look. I would say Everybody Is Twelve Now but twelve-year-olds are generally much smarter than this.

it is terrifying and awful that this passed the House with any Dem support at all (and once again, the continued leadership support for Cuellar is unconscionable)

call your senators and make absolutely sure this dies in the Senate, lives are on the line

trans people deserve so much better
Henry Cuellar, Don Davis, and Vicente Gonzalez joined Republicans in voting to criminalize trans health care.

The bill passed only 216 to 214.

4 Republicans voted no. If they did too, it would have failed.

With all the talk of the Bondi beach hero being a Muslim man, I would like to remind everyone that the *vast majority* of victims of so-called "Islamic extremism" are other Muslims. Not just as literal victims across the Muslim world, but also as political pawns in aftermath of attacks in the West.

Beside the point but the way conservatives in the US and Japan talk about "importing" immigrants as if they're livestock rather than people is gross and also not at all how immigration works???
Folks, would you believe me if I told you JD Vance was over there railing against the immigrants as the reason for the antisemitism

He's also responsible for raising all the money that paid for bringing Hollingsworth v. Perry & even more importantly Bostic v. Schaefer, which created the circuit split that forced SCOTUS to take on Obergefell v. Hodges. The role he played in American marriage equality cannot be overstated.
The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

Unfortunately I think this vision of artistic endeavor (or lack thereof) is shared by a lot of people who aren't excessively wealthy at all. They don't understand that it's not about getting to a finish line faster—the pursuit is the whole point.
I have grown to believe that excessive wealth does something to your brain that is analogous to a serious head injury

there is a very good book about transatlantic exchange of fascist, eugenicist and racist ideas in the early 20th century and how those ideas shaped the nazi government in its early years. this has been transformed in popular understanding to "the nazis copied jim crow"
If you’ve heard the “the Nazis got their ideas from the US segregationists” I beg you to please stop. This is both false and it minimizes historical European antisemitism in a misguided attempt to emphasize the nature of US anti-Black racism.

It’s horrific without comparison to Nazism.
May I politely encourage you to reconsider this framing. It is inaccurately stated and suggests consistent and strong linkages that do not exist.

The Nazis did not “get their ideas” from confederate laws. Antisemitism and anti-Jewish laws existed in Europe long before the Confederacy…

I am obsessed with tourists who ask whether they should cancel their trip to Japan after a largish but otherwise non-serious earthquake and my answer to them will always be yes. I get having some nerves if you've never experienced one before but an earthquake is *always* a possibility here.

Over a decade ago, famed Irish drag queen Panti Bliss gave a speech where she mentioned what a "funny trick" it is that homophobes respond to being accurately labeled as homophobic as if they're the ones who've been called a homophobic slur, and well...we're really in the thick of that culture now.
Hiring a Black woman: “identity politics”

Hiring a white guy for a job that has been held disproportionately by white guys, because he is a white guy: “subverting” identity politics!

(The author of this sentence is Dylan Byers; you will not be surprised to learn that he is a white guy.)
