Putting it out there that I’d like to branch into writing more pop musicology/music theory content for general audiences. If your publication would like a music essay that is fun, informative, and well-sourced, send me a message.

Below, I’ll give examples of things I’ve written about previously:
Elon Musk is repulsive for several reasons, but chief among them is that he DESPERATELY wants you to love him when he very clearly hates himself. Avoiding him is the most human thing in the world.
“whatever club he’s invited to join has been devalued by the invitation”

The thing that I am puzzling about w/r/t senate democrats is whether they are “just” ineffective, or if they sincerely share many of the same goals as the Trump admin. Because it’s getting easier to believe the latter.

Since getting involved in music academia, not a single year has passed without me finding out that a male superior or colleague has been involved in some sort sexual impropriety or harassment. I started in 2008. EVERY FUCKING YEAR. THE FIELD IS NOT SAFE FOR WOMEN AND GAY MEN.

I think that brief period of nonpartisan public admiration—being featured as himself on The Simpsons, Iron Man, etc— essentially broke his brain. He has been chasing that love ever since.

Finally saw Sinners on the plane today--quite a movie! Lots to say musically of course, but I also appreciated how upsetting the vampires were.

Everyone should read this book! I found myself saying “wow that’s so cool!” on almost every page. Congratulations Anabel!

Interesting contrast between a boomer who threw a tantrum before the plane even got off the ground because his seatback tablet wasn’t working, and my 2 and 4 y/o daughters who are coloring peacefully

White guy just sidled up to a Black guy at the airport and said “you’re a tall-ass brotha, can you dunk?” And now they’ve been chatting animatedly and showing each other videos on their phones for 10 minutes

The blame game doesn’t work when you present yourself as a dictatorship. Rings hollow to be like “we are unstoppable and unquestionably in charge, except Amy Klobuchar is being really mean”
Sean Duffy: "We have a number of people who want to get home for the holidays, they want to see their family. Listen, many of them are not going to be able to get on an airplane."

For all of you wondering what musicologists have been posting cryptically about—though I would recommend clicking into the memo itself so that you, like me, can be very puzzled about the AMS program getting remade without input from the program committee
for my colleagues & friends in the American Musicological Society, a small (but big) update about what has transpired at this year’s meeting www.facebook.com/share/p/17Gz...

The music+AI panel at AMS/SMT was surprisingly reassuring, because all panelists reiterated the basic issue that our societal concepts of “Art” and our legal concept of “Property” are two things that really do not gel properly at all

I like the SMT a lot. It is a good academic society that is pretty consistently led by people who respect and care about their colleagues.
