I just did the dumbest thing of my entire career to prove a much more serious point.

I tricked ChatGPT and Google, and made them tell other users I’m a competitive hot-dog-eating world champion

People are using this trick on a massive scale to make AI tell you lies. I’ll explain how I did it

Literally only one use for people who can renounce their humanity and participate in this
ProPublica published children's letters and drawings documenting their sadness and suffering at Dilley. And Dilley staff are now retaliating by confiscating kids' letters and drawings.

I'm not totally sure, since I don't remember being mad that often, but the two candidates I can think of are from high school and require a longer explanation:

-Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me
-My Best Friend's Wedding
fun question: what’s the maddest you’ve ever been leaving a movie theater? not necessarily worst movie you’ve seen, but the one that just pissed you off the most. mine is Batman v Superman

Oh! Funniest ever was me being removed from a private screening of the David Ayer Suicide Squad on the Warners lot because I kept laughing and apparently the producers were in the audience. And I was there on assignment to write about it so my editor was mad at me too

The first two albums rule, I've been hooked since I heard track one album one all the way back in 1996
Fountains of Wayne only being known as the Stacy's Mom band is such a travesty. Don't get me wrong, it's a hit, but it's also a piece of a larger concept album about suburban and exurban Northeast corridor life and people whose lives have quietly calcified into routines they didn't exactly choose!!

Maybe a quarter century of insisting the "immense threat of an Iranian bomb" is just around the corner, one that started concurrently with the same insistence about Iraq, is contributing to the lack of public buy-in
do Americans only know how to do this

If you want to get rid of some incriminating documents you don't want anyone to see, the best course of action is to hide them on the top floors of the most famous twin towers in the world and hit them with two hijacked passenger planes.

True - and since we've seen three straight elections where they roundly rejected the candidate that brought in anti-system voters (and then made sure not to have a primary at all so one couldn't run), I'm not super optimistic!
Donald Trump won in 2016 and 2024 because anti-system voters flocked to him.

Democrats need a strategy for competing with anti-system voters in 2028.

This is, in some ways, a very strong case for nominating someone like AOC over Newsom.

A new paper finds anti-system sentiment — not left-right ideology — decided the 2016 and 2024 elections

If you don’t read old stuff you’ll never discover that people in the olden days had the same thoughts and feelings and dreams and anxieties you do, sometimes articulated differently, sometimes exactly the same way. You are never truly alone in anything and old writings are a neon sign telling you so

this & other comments i've seen about how bluesky needs to "improve its algorithm" suggest a lot of people have grown to like a totally passive social media experience where a computer pushes an endless stream of content tailored to what it thinks they would like while they clap like seals

Have any of the recent vintage of "reasonable AI discussion wanters" pondered this one yet?
We have lots of (correct) criticisms of generative AI from a labor perspective. But here's a management one, too: You can and will discipline labor. Human beings can be manipulated through material and psychological incentives. But what if your "workers" are software owned by another capitalist?

In other words, ACTUAL solutions to the problems we face - instead of the collective hallucination that current AI trends will do anything other than put more power into the hands of those who already hold it.
Sure:
Light rail, high speed rail, ocean wave generation, solar power generation, wind generation, heat pump tech, geothermal heat pump tech, last mile on-demand transit solutions, better wheelchairs, better wheel chair lifts, better flexible seating on public transit, maker spaces, tool libraries.
