It's on apt. It's literally on Cargo. It's on DockerHub with ads. It's literally on nuget. You can probably find it on snap. Dude it's on portage. It's a Homebrew original. It's on pacman. You can download it on nixpkgs. You can go to pkgsrc and watch it. Log onto the Windows Store right now.

Update: The State Department has once again changed the language back to saying transgender people's passports will be valid "until they are invalidated pursuant to federal regulations."

This is basically making it so trans people who were adopted and had their birth records sealed cannot obtain a passport at all. This will also ensnare cis people who were adopted and have clerical errors on their records or are suspected of being trans.
this is fucking new, i think im gonna be sick

how tf am i supposed to get an old birth cert if it was fucking sealed by the state

oh but religious records are valid dw

1. DNS lookups for both URLs to see if they resolve to the same IP
2. If either DNS lookup fails, do a case-insensitive textual comparison of the URLs
3. If that fails, check if they're both null
4. If that fails, then they're not equal.
If you want a real laugh, look at how Java checks urls for equality.

Lawgeeks, check out this amicus brief in the upcoming SCOTUS case about state bans on trans women athletes.

It directly challenges the nutso "ascertainability at birth" argument that Justice Barrett nodded to in Skrmetti and that the 6th Cir. has adopted.

This article is not hard to write... interview a bunch of trans dudes with full beards and ask them how much trouble they have when their documents say female. And then force the proponents of this policy why these dudes deserve extra harassment from the TSA.
I really disliked this piece on trans passports by Amy Harmon of the New York Times. It is, admittedly, an "old" New York Times story, one that makes a reasonable effort to cloak its biases and present itself as seeking both sides of a story ("new" NYT stories don't bother).

A new NYT piece on Trump’s bigoted anti-trans passport edict leans heavily on the notion that polling supports his gender ideology. That’s a simplistic and largely unsupported reading of scarce polling. Read this analysis of polling by @alysbrooks.bsky.social

Polls on Trans Issues Ignite a Debate That Ignores Their Many Limitations — Assigned
The surveys, and the political stances pundits build from them, lack essential context on how firmly Americans hold their beliefs and how knowledgeable they are.

yeah on one hand they say "we can't stop follows by design of the protocol, it's an open read 🤷" but then add a system that restricts comments to followers and some "impossible" functionality that requires client-side respect (like blocking quote posts)

no reason bsky can't add this
BlueSky desperately needs soft block

yep. this is, notably, the case wrt to the "brain isn't fully developed until age 25" myth. Brains do not stop developing and there is nothing notable that happens to them at age 25. There's just a development study that stopped following up at that age.
In general you can safely assume that any claim about human bodies that says "this stops at a hard cutoff of [x] years" actually means "the studies on this ran out of funding at [x] years"

VALVE CEO: Hmm let's see... does anyone here know who's addicted to Valve products and buys weird hardware at the drop of a hat?

GAY INTERN: {quietly} Sir… I have to teach you a term right now…

CEO: Is it "Six Sigma"? Because I'm way ahead of you

INTERN: No, no… it's… "T4T"…
Let me just say that Valve really knows their audience by picking these two as poster children for the Steam Machine:

An analysis of news pieces about Trump’s anti-trans decrees found that “70 percent did not include a quote from a single trans person. Instead, journalists turned to cisgender sources — mostly government officials — to speak about trans people, their lives, and how they would be affected.”
