I know everything's on fire right now, but this needs to be a much bigger deal than it is.

If this is how the US farm sector is rolling- along with other issues like forbidding poultry farms from vaccinating flocks against bird flu- we're looking at a recipe for some hunger times.

BREAKING: DOGE is starting to put together a team to migrate the SSA's computer systems entirely off one of its oldest programming languages in a matter of months, potentially putting the integrity of the system—and the benefits on which tens of millions of Americans rely—at risk.
DOGE Plans to Rebuild SSA Codebase In Months, Risking Benefits and System Collapse
Social Security systems contain tens of millions of lines of code written in COBOL, an archaic programming language. Safely rewriting that code would take years—DOGE wants it done in months.

There's no mention of this on Labour's FB page. Greens and Te Pāti Māori haven't mentioned it. Our opposition parties need to be more vocal on this undemocratic decision.

When the website for submission collapsed under the weight of our collective anger we were told that we could still bring our fury to the committee by hand, on paper.
But that was not true. Those words are unread, those voices unheard.

She's not only being told that she's dumb, but that she's literally 'crazy' and 'weird', it's gaslighting for performing an essential democratic accountability function.
It's a pretty sad indictment of our politics when an elected representative says "the people I represent tell me that the sharp end of state power is oppressive to them" and the overwhelming response isn't "shit - that's terrible ... we should fix that!" but rather "shut up, stupid person!"

How, given that our defence and security capacities are completely infiltrated by the US state, do we defend ourselves if the US becomes our opponent? www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
The question no one dares ask: what if Britain has to defend itself from the US? | George Monbiot

Actually, Canada would probably be better off out of this automatic intelligence-sharing arrangement, which involves mass spying on each others' citizens. As would we. Not least because its dominant member is now playing for the other side.
See it as an opportunity, not a threat.
