Depending on which agitators and cookers decide to cause disruptions over which particular issues, we're sadly going to see publicly just how much the self-nominated "classical liberals" actually value liberalism.

really important thread about ACTUAL freespeech
Staff at NZ universities will now have to deal with govt mandated free speech complaints process designed to facilitate far right agitprop infiltrating campus spaces and threatening our academic freedom under the guise of protecting it.

can we discount the fact that things have been buried, perhaps actively by police, at this stage?
Still waiting for someone to publicly investigate what David Seymour knew about sex criminal Tim Jago and when.

In case Alex's post is too subtle APOLOGISE TO TAMATHA PAUL THIS INSTANT YOU COWARDS
Just seems a little short while ago that various government politicians, and people acting as their media surrogates, were outraged and scandalized by, and poured scorn on, comments from younger women politicians for suggesting many people don't trust cops.

Of course she was charged under the Harmful Digital Communications Act, rather than treating the allegations as serious (and they were serious). This is awful.

The allegations arose from an affair between McSkimming and the woman who at the time was a junior non-sworn police employee.

It's fucking horrific, but the McSkimming case is very much beyond 'bad apple' territory into "how many others did McSkimming enable" and I'd be unsurprised if it reached beyond just the police as well, given the kompromat potential over him.

Almost like there’s a common theme here. Lies, selective distortions, and motivated reasoning gets amplified because it’s not impartial or objective to interpret whether “some people say” is accurate or not.

Rejuvenating community scale news has potential to make a huge difference if audiences take it seriously. The PIJF was a huge opportunity for this but was frittered away by centralised media orgs on operational expenses, not allocated strategically in a transformational way.

Not talking consistently about ideology, power or the funding networks promoting certain positions is one of the reasons so many people view media orgs as unreliable narrators. Need to talk about this, not handwave it by falling back on the truism that people just want their bias reflected back.

I agree. The narrative explanation for declining trust has become ‘political polarisation’ rather than ‘lying is now the norm’ which massively limits opportunities for adaptation and resilience to manipulation.
