Happy NYE folks. 2025 actually didn’t treat me too bad – great new job, AuDHD diagnosis, raised $1500 for Tents 4 Gaza / $1375 for Sweat With Pride, got solar on the roof, donated 46 knitted items to charity and performed in two pole shows. Not sure what 2026 holds tbh, but I've got some ideas...

kind of funny that an olympian said they are here to represent "compassion, respect, and love for others" and some people automatically knew that was a statement against them

A lot of our political discourse would be easier if we didn't extend good faith to people who would never extend it back.

it's not just that Mamdani is charming af (he is), it's that he is normalizing the idea that children are full members of society that we all share a collective responsibility for
From @acyn.bsky.social (posted on X)

"Reporter: Do any of you have a favorite animal?

Child: My favorite one is a gold snake that can move. It has gold eyes, and it has a super-duper tail…

Reporter: Mr. Mamdani, the second question for you.

Mamdani: Yes. It’s also the golden snake."

This is really the only kind of "strategic" voting you can do in our system

And it only works if TPM win more seats that their party vote would return, so it can be marginal! But no harm in trying ...
VOTING ADVICE

If you are on the Māori roll.

FFS vote for TPM or independent electorate MP and give your party vote to GREENS

Your vote will be amplified as the overhang seats WILL BE CRITICAL THIS ELECTION!!!

The right wing racist pricks DON’T get compensated for the overhang!!!

IT'S FEBRUARY 2026.

THE RAIL ENABLED HYUNDAI FERRIES FOR I REX WERE MEANT TO ARRIVE BY NOW.

Instead we have no rail enabled ferries, the two we have are clunky as fuck, and there will be no replacement ferries until 2029 at the earliest.

Instagram influencers of all kinds are getting “political” and they don’t care how many followers they lose.

They are posting video of them doing what their account is known for (skiing, golf, cooking), with text overlay reminding their followers that they can’t do X if they’re killed by ICE.

Saying colonisation was good for indigenous people is actually racist against white people

It buys into the harmful stereotype that Europeans are inherently barbaric and can't share knowledge or resources without bringing violence, disease and oppression

wait is it still a stereotype if it's tr---

On top of everything else the National Party apparently thinks *Fozzie fucking Bear* is the Muppet who's iconic for being egotistical

Don't you dare tell me this is bad on purpose to make people share it, it's pure backfire
Just another disaster day in the National marketing lab....

Y'all know I'm normally cynical about saying "this rightwing outrage is just a distraction from a bigger rightwing outrage!!!"

but David Farrar suddenly popping off unasked about Aotearoa becoming Australia's seventh wheel has GOT to be cover for something, right

A ban isn't radical. A real radical approach would be to no longer accept the governance and economic model that social media platforms rely, which we can and should regulate instead.

The academic is Dr Samantha Marsh, a member of before16 a group pushing for a social media ban backed by wealthy (white) women. Platforms don't want regulation, duh. But what they're really scared of is legal duties of care, which a ban doesn't do (unfortunately) #nzpol

Worth noting that blocking someone you follow doesn't remove you from their follow list, so it's possible a chunk of those people don't realise they show up as still following him.

Since he's trying to make a return, do yourself a favour and check if you're following @neilhimself.neilgaiman.com and if so unfollow and block.

It is absolutely a choice for government not to ensure every kid has access to the support and resources they need to thrive at home and at school.
Parents and teachers of disabled children want them to have the best opportunities for full lives. That usually means inclusive education with support in main stream schools. Disabled kids can grow up to be adults thriving in the real world, with some help.

If a union affiliated with NZ Labour (or the CTU, which National and ACT lie about being Labour affiliates) was hosting a high-profile Epstein associate on a speaking tour of NZ it would be the only story for weeks

Remember their reaction to Benjamin Doyle having a slightly naughty Instagram handle
It’s clear since the Tim Jago ACT President was charged & convicted of multiple counts of child abuse, that the money behind ACT protects Seymour, the Party & astroturf organisations from proper scrutiny in the media. Can you imagine if a Labour Leader had run interference for a paedophile?
