Today's video is out annual event video, the top 100 board games of all time, according to me. And this year its a whopper, coming in at just under 2 hours. I've set it up this year so it works well enough as a video you watch, or as an audio piece you listen to as a podcast.

The way the press is treating chatbots, like they have agency and they “know” things all of a sudden, crossed the line recently from dumb and obsequious to something else entirely. Treating them as alive and making conscious decisions is an almost religious belief. It won’t age well.

Bohnanza came out in 1997, and while it didn't need a brand new review, it's such a funny old classic I thought i'd give it one any way. If you are looking for a light weight game that can be played over and over again with up to 7 players, check it out. www.youtube.com/watch?v=My8J...

The Manage My Health security breach is going to go down as one of the worst privacy breaches in NZ history.

There are failures at so many levels, starting with lack of decent comms.

The directors and executives of this company need to front up, fix this mess, and then resign.

*Goes into a local hobby store he's not visited*
*sees its mostly 40k and not much else*
*See's the window display of the AT-AT with a German cross on it and nazi armband*
*Leaves the store without spending a cent*

I can't help but wonder why people think wargamers are a bunch of Nazi fan boys

My 4 year old daughter, wearing a flowy dress, jumping, dancing manically, swinging off the door handle in the living room while shouting at the top of her lungs "MUSIC! MUSIC!"

So I guess this is how Kate Bush's parents felt?

Look, all I'm saying is if BELGIUM thinks you're committing a genocide ...
Belgium joins South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at ICJ
Other countries, including Brazil, Colombia, Ireland, Mexico, Spain and Turkiye, have already joined case in The Hague.

There is this weird and wacky cult out there of axis and allies players who make homebrew versions of the game, where the goal is apparently. ADD MORE STUFF, MOST STUFF IN THE GAME WINS

So when you think "this game cou8ld be streamlined" just know there are people for whom the opposite is true :)

It stole from beloved literature written by real humans to generate the list in the first place, it stole water and electricity and money in an age where those are often in short supply, and it's stealing our ability to have trust and confidence in the media at a time we need that more than ever

Sending me a Christmas day "I know its Christmas day but can you make content for my vague game with no details. I'll pay you to say its good" email is the surest way to get a very terse email response from me.

Today's review is World Wonders. The sort of game that doesn't do anything remarkably new, but does all the basics well enough that it is just a pleasure to play. A great example of how you don't need to overcook things to make a good game. find out more here. youtu.be/cDr6-buvJmc

So, for all those folk who said "GEN AI WILL MAKE BOARD GAMES MUCH CHEAPER"

I can't help but notice that terraforming mars prelude 2 retails for the exact same price as terraforming mars prelude 1.

I think 2 has a few more cards, like 47 vs 54 or something. Both are 60NZD for less than 60 cards

I wish boardgames got the same backlash for using AI art in final products that Larian Studios and Expedition 33 did for just using it in pre production

Awaken Realms (whose CEO also owns Gamefound) openly admits to it and still raised >$15 MILLION on crowdfunding this year

I just don't understand how or why academics are citing papers that don't exist. First, you should know by now that LLMs make things up, so if you for some reason found it that way and then
didn't double check the citation is real, you are simply an enormous rube.

People are weird, some company approached me offering review materials for the channel for some board game accessories, they looked interesting, so I said sure.

They then faffed about for 2 months, got back to me and said "sorry, we are only going with outlets that get 100k+ views per post"

Moon colony bloodbath is an odd one.

I can see so many people absolutely hating the fail state the game forces on you.

I kinda dig it for being so unabashedly mean to everyone.
