Due to how bluesky works, here's a top 12. In no particular order.

Spirit Island - Co-op, variable powers, high challenge

Arkham Horror: The card game - Deck construction like magic the gathering, but co-op

Castles of Burgundy - The best euro game

Star Wars Rebellion - Epic war game.

Why the FUCK would you ever outsource inventory curation to an LLM? If you don't have enough faith in your own judgment and/or the skills to do market research, why would I trust you to be able to recommend books to me?

People enjoy Vantage, so great for them, but the idea of an open-World-Multiplayer boardgame is like the dea of Doom running on the fridge: Impressive, but I dont think its the medium, I would use to actually play it.

My local Barnes and Noble had both @3mbg.bsky.social’s book and Storyfold: Wildwoods. I love our independent, local book and game stores, but BN has gone from being a scary potential monopolist to a crucial bulwark against Amazonian dominance, which is a surprisingly groovy arc.

“Players shouldn’t have bad turns”

Is some of the most useless, privileged, nonsense game design reductionism I’ve ever heard.

Ewwwwww 🤮

One of the great indictments on war gaming is the topics chosen by its "alternative history" sub genre. There are two main popular settings and that's about it.

What if the cold war got hot? This one is less popular now, but was so big during the cold war

And....

What if the Nazis did better.

Honestly, the IPCA report into the police (mis)handling of the McSkimming case makes for jaw-dropping reading.

But it’s 135 pages long so I’ve read it for you.

Here’s my report on one of the most serious failures of integrity in modern policing history⬇️⬇️
The inside story of how police protected a senior cop, and prosecuted his accuser instead
For years, police leadership ignored warnings about Jevon McSkimming. The IPCA has set out the chain of failures.

Today's video is about Dorfromantik sakura, a standalone version of Dorfromantik that is it's own whole game. This is a very cosy tile laying game and a great game for couples in particular. Check out the new version here. youtu.be/TiodkiwX0gU

No, using AI generated stuff as a "placeholder" on your crowdfunding campaign is not OK either.

If the visuals are THAT important to getting your project funded, then you need to pay a person up front for those key visuals and deliver a consistent end product to your backers.

Just scrolled through a games kickstarter that is using terrible Midjourney generated art. And it has so many videos from board game influencers.

Big names as well as smaller ones.

So incredibly disappointing to see a lack of ethics and even a lack of self interest from so many channels.

So sweet seeing my local book store do a promo for my book now that it has arrived in New Zealand!

101 board games to try before you die (of boredom) is a whistle stop tour through modern games that are both visually appealing great looking games and great games to play as well.

Do buy it :)

Hey look, another big reprint! This is one that I like but don't love. I'm not a huge worker placement fan (they often end up devolving into turn order battles I think) but this is a great first step into that genre.
