This IPCA report on McSkimming and enabler/s needs a major systemic review of police command staff and systems to result. How deep does the rot go?Is just making up breathalysers results by lower level police a downstream reflection of the culture? New Zealand needs answers, not soundbites.

So if Andrew Coster had had his way, we would have had an alleged corrupt sex abuser and (now) convicted child pornographer and horse fucking enthusiast leading the police.

I love how the Nz police are trying to to pretend the problem is a couple of people. Like those men who were found innocent of assaulting louise nicholas but did jail time for assaulting other women. And the cops who covered it up. It’s a lot of individuals

There was a massive culture problem in the police in 1989. There's clearly still one today. Hard to know where to start when really bad judgement at the low end and pretty vile criminal behaviour at the other seems to keep popping up in senior police ranks.

There has always been a strong case for adding a public interest override to the section 6 withholding grounds in the OIA.
Today's IPCA report on Police malfeasance makes clear that section 6(c) in particular must have this safeguard.
The OIA must also apply to IPCA and the new Inspector-General.

I can't see how Andrew Coster can keep his job as CE of the Social Investment Agency following this paragraph in IPCA's media release of its report. If he hasn't already resigned, he should do so or be sacked.

At what point do we publicly accept that NZ is deeply corrupt and the only reason why we don’t have a culture of direct payoffs and bribery (that we cite as the evidence for us not being corrupt) is because it’s not needed? The boys club gets what it wants through people playing their social roles.

I expect this panel discussion at the AGM of Transparency International NZ tomorrow evening will be far less amiable than might have been expected 24 hours ago.
Features the Director of the SFO, Commissioner of Police, and Secretary of the Ministry of Justice.

What with the folks that will need sacked from this McSkimming coverup and those that should be sacked for adding fake clicks to their breath testing numbers, it's gonna be pretty tricky for Mark Mitchell to get his extra 500 cops, eh?

Bloody grim. Police in the years since seem to have treated John Dewar as a role model rather than a cautionary tale. Louise Nicholas all over again.
Just to be clear, this is what John Dewar has been up to since covering up sexual assault by 3 of his colleagues.

A woman, who said she had a sexual relationship with him when she was 21 and he was 40, made complaints about him and instead of taking it seriously they prosecuted her under the HDCA.
