Brendan May People on the centre/centre left fuming about Labour getting tough on the immigration issue don't seem to understand that if Labour doesn't deal with it firmly and fairly Reform will sweep the board at the next election. It's nonsensical to pretend the issue isn't real - it is.

"I spent a while trying to figure out how to classify An Honour & a Privilege. Viewed through one lens it might not seem an important question: classification is mostly helpful for shelving decisions. But genre also dictates how one reads a thing. Whether you think of this book as an anthology (many authors), a collection (one common author), or a craft book (the reflective duets) may affect your perception of the whole. I struggle to compare this work to any of those three genres. The project in front of you reveals more about its craft than other anthologies. It's more authentically connected to strong exemplar material than other craft books. It's more heteroglossic than any collection I recall. The best way to think of An Honour & a Privilege may be to regard it as a genre all its own, one which depends significantly on its many interconnections, one which marks both an occasion and an invitation, one which offers us both a testimony as to what can be done together and a guide on how to do it." Shortened leave to remain. Currently, refugees in the UK receive a five-year initial period of leave. In the future this will be reduced significantly. Refugees will instead receive 30 months of leave to remain, which can only be renewed if they are still considered in need of protection. Where protection is no longer needed the person will become liable for removal from the UK. A longer path to settlement. In the future there will be no path to indefinite settled status in the UK on Core Protection, until a refugee has spent 20 years in the country, an increase on the current five years. Settlement requirements will be considered in an upcoming consultation on earned settlement, covering both legal and illegal migrants.

We were not asylum seekers, but nearly 50 years on, my mum still wistfully talks of the jewellery she had to sell to pay for the plane tickets that got us here.

Aside from this policy being unconscionable, it does make me wonder how many asylum seekers will have any such belongings to confiscate.

This reflects the most controversial aspect of the Danish scheme - the Jewellery Law. The toughest Labour MPs thought this was OTT

People in the comments saying "if I'd known this was what Labour would be like, there's no way I'd have voted for them" but they ran their coup on this, they campaigned like this, they spoke publicly like this, they gave interviews like this. Genuinely, how did you NOT know? How?!

Such a shame that the University of Portsmouth Bombsight map appears to be irretrievably broken. I hope I'm wrong and it's fixable. It was an incredible resource for teaching about the Blitz.

I've even seeing formerly *Tory* older people on local groups saying Labour has gone so far right they'll never vote for them again and they're investigating the Lib Dems and the Greens. I can't stress enough how Tory they are? were? (their post history on the local groups is viewable).

What still shocks is the sheer vindictiveness and distortion of the language. Here, asylum seekers are classed implicitly as illegal migrants who've been getting a "golden ticket" as if they were lottery winners, and will now be punished with a 20 year wait for settlement, if not evicted first.

The total refusal of British nature groups to use GPS coordinates continues to be the bane of my existence 😅 The *entire world* uses GPS coordinates. They're free and non-proprietary! They translate everywhere! Trying to translate OS grid and w3w to an actual location that I can put in my phone 😅

I have so many dreams that I wanted to fulfill and plans to create new stories for you. There are a few in progress that might come to fruition in a few years if things work out. I did not ever imagine I would live to this age and end up a writer, editor, activist, and more. As a kid riddled with insecurity and internalized ableism, I could not see a path forward. It was thanks to friendships and some great teachers who believed in me that I was able to fight my way out of miserable situations into a place where I finally felt comfortable in my skin. We need more stories about us and our culture. You all, we all, deserve the everything and more in such a hostile, ableist environment. Our wisdom is incisive and unflinching. I'm honored to be your ancestor and believe disabled oracles like us will light the way to the future. Don't let the bastards grind you down. I love you all.

Just led the first troop of this run of my Junior Botanists groups through torrential rain to learn about moss biology, biodiversity, and a bit of slime molds on the way! Some fantastic science and field skills were deployed by all kids #homeeducation
