In 2019, we put the first 8 years of Rip It Up online, free, searchabe and downloadable. In 2024 we added 1986-98 paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/periodicals/...

I expect this panel discussion at the AGM of Transparency International NZ tomorrow evening will be far less amiable than might have been expected 24 hours ago.
Features the Director of the SFO, Commissioner of Police, and Secretary of the Ministry of Justice.

An awful, awful example of what happens when you use AI scribe systems in healthcare without any meaningful form of redress for their erroneous output.
Setting a "compliance" policy that doesn't allow clinical staff to change AI generated fields without intervention is definitely a money decision.

a few months ago I said "having generative AI handle absolutely anything with regards to healthcare is a nightmare and should be banned" and a bunch of people made fun of me and called me stupid. anyways,

Having had time to watch this now, I would endorse it to anyone interested in helping add to a common fact based understanding of the world and the social context of artefacts of meaning.
I gave the closing keynote at posit::conf in September and it's available to watch. When you find yourself giving a talk with a little tiny microphone stuck to the side of your head you have to ask yourself some hard questions, but the talk was partly about that.
