Tēnā koutou katoa,
Now that Bluesky has video, thought I'd do quick introduction in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) for fellow Deaf folk.

My name is Jasmin, I'm Deaf, live here in Aotearoa NZ.

I grew up mainstreamed, oral, NZSL is my second language.

For anyone who needs something different in the feed tonight

I've got a couple of new aquilegia plants blooming at the moment, both from Dunedin Botanic Gardens plant sale last year

First couple pics are different angles of the purply one, last pic of yellow one

If the person appointed to be the Inspector-General of Police isn’t a woman, it is very hard to see how they will even begin to command the trust and confidence of the public to tackle what is clearly a deeply misogynistic culture in the police.
So when do we decide men can’t be trusted to run the police?

Really great* how deeply we are invested in silencing those who are not cis white straight men vs, say, I don’t know, paying those people equitably, designing any policy with them in mind, and believing them when they speak up about appalling and unacceptable behaviour.

*Absolutely vile, actually.

Just seems a little short while ago that various government politicians, and people acting as their media surrogates, were outraged and scandalized by, and poured scorn on, comments from younger women politicians for suggesting many people don't trust cops.

Highest levels of the force - filth.

And for an extra few bucks, I pack it extra extra cute, with bonus goodies; pens, lollies and stuff. ❤️

When politicians say that they want a "mature" or "sensible" or "reasoned" discussion about something, they are saying that if you disagree with their pov, you are being immature, foolish and unreasonable.

Been thinking a lot lately of the compulsion to say thanks for the merest bit of access provided. Never mind human rights, gotta make nice so folk feel better about doing what is our right

The whole acceptance of increments of access as "better than nothing"

& how we're doing this with politics
