Departing via Perth and really feeling that lack of seating thought passport / TRS / security, and then a long walk via duty free.

Plenty of seating at the gates but by now my feet and legs are aching and my back is killing me.
Got into Perth Airport at 10pm their time (3am ours), spent an hour and a half getting through customs and security. Whole sections (esp baggage and customs) with no seating at all. Makes it very very hard on the body, and adding extra fatigue and pain onto an already long journey.

Huh, that compulsory voting in Australia must really work...

A very niche comparison, but absolutely astounded by some of the fabric prices in Perth.

I got hand woven (like, on a hand loom!) artisan fabric for -drumroll- AU$12/m! That's about NZ$14.

I'd of been paying probably $30-60/m at home, if I could source it at all.

I can have UNLIMITED travel in Perth on their PT system - buses AND trains for AU$10

ARE YOU SHITTING ME

I've very much enjoyed Brad's introduction to the noise crows make - "Is that a cat? Being sick? What is that noise?" 😂

Why (some) men great til they gotta be great, again.

We went through Louise Nicholas; bad apples, never again.

We went through Roastbusters; bad apples, never again.

We go through this every couple of years, and that’s just what gets made public.

It’s not good enough. We all deserve better.
IPCA report says the PM and Police Minister were in receipt of the McSkimming emails

Would be nice to get some answers about who kew what & when about all of that

We live in a country v much divided by those who have experienced police inaction, or worse - and those who haven't. I saw it constantly when talking about getting death threats or stalked - "I hope someone called the cops!". Why? Why would you assume they were going to do anything helpful?

My experience in the Australian health system was v good, but as I've been out a few days now, I can't help but sigh - one of the nurses told me off for "getting wound up" as they tried to take blood.

They were, for one, pushing the cannula needle into my hand. I have huge bruises.

I broadly don't watch reality TV, just not for me, but god Celebrity Traitors UK has been so good and just having watched the end - I saw a spoiler and I was still enthralled the whole way.

Fuck I love good TV.

Wow, turns out they even have raised crossings in the middle of the outback. And the sky hasn't fallen here either.

Didn't expect to get gastro, didn't expect it to land me an overnight stay in a regional Australian hospital...

But holy shit. This is leagues above any experience I've had in NZ. Seen in an hour. Hot meal that was honestly very good. Salt even offered! The loveliest nurses, I cannot fault.

There's been a real rw political shift to erode Good Work that doesn't have strong public awareness campaigns or by-in. I saw it here where our local low-cost power company got removed by the lines company trust to give back fucking $200 rebates, despite the company being FAR more effective
Geez this government is a death cult aye, they are taking 20% of Water Safety NZ’s funding from next year because they weren’t sure if it actually made a difference to drowning statistics. It’s $1.1 million of funding, there needs to be more funding not less.

And I say all of this, not just because accessible infrastructure helps someone in my specific scenario, but it also helps older people, it helps families with small children, it helps people with other hidden disabilities...

And it's just good hospitality. It's just looking after people.
Some Travelling While Disabled™️ thoughts:

Auckland Airport had so many seats, everywhere, always empty seats at every point in the journey through the airport

The Air NZ staff were also very quick to help with the kisoks and quick to tell us it wasn't out fault and they've fixed it all

So, flying to Perth, and the amount of people who've said "omg what are you going to do for the seven hour flight"

...I'm going to watch the flight map and read Wikipedia on the in-flight WiFi? Duh

I got to see a pre-release screening of Pike River last night.

Had a moment of, oh shit it's Helen Kelly, then another moment of LUCY LAWLESS!

The film does a great job of showing how spineless the mine management and John Key's govt was, and the local misogyny faced by Anna and Sonya.

Please please folks check your vaxx status & that of your kids. Measles is not “just a childhood illness”; before vaccinations it killed and disabled millions of people every year. Remember, your vaccine doesn’t just protect you, but those too young or too immunocompromised to be vaccinated.
