🧵Little thread on how to effectively advocate for issues in Parliament
1. Email your MP. This will always generate a response.
2. Get your local buddies who share an MP to write to the same MP. Three emails on the same subject will always get attention.
3. Don’t write via snail mail…

IT PASSED!!!
The Bill passed with the full support of ALL parties, which is a rare and lovely thing.
Huge congratulations to @beefaerie.bsky.social for successfully uniting the House behind the Bill.
It WILL make a difference and I’m so proud to have been a part of it.

If anyone is interested … ‘my’ old bill, the Companies (Address information) Amendment Bill is in the House right now for its third reading.
Thank you so much to Hon Dr Deborah Russell @beefaerie.bsky.social for working so long and hard to get the bill to this stage.
Now, PASS!!! 🤞🏼

If, like me, you are very confused by the situation in the US today - this is a helpful (and hopeful) explainer.
🚨 The shutdown isn’t over. The Senate vote was a procedural step, not a deal. Nothing is reopening. Nothing is fixed. Eight Democrats helped move an old GOP bill while families go unpaid and SNAP stays frozen.

Flood the lines. Call your Senators.

The current MP for Ilam sure does things differently from the last.
(Me, it’s me!)

FYI despite *everything* (and while taking staff safety extremely seriously) we didn’t trespass a single person from our office, let alone the entire Mall.

Great 🧵 from Craig. I especially enjoyed the list of notoriously left wing orgs (not!) who support CGT 😂
#nzpol Labour is proposing to create a Capital Gains Tax on property - excluding farms and the family home. That income will help make GP visits free for the majority of people. Is that a better policy than continuing tax-free profits on, say, someone's seventh property? Absolutely. A🧵

Your regular reminder that unions represent PEOPLE. They are simply the voice of the PEOPLE they represent.
Nothing more. Nothing less.
Attack them and you’re attacking the people they represent.
It’s pretty simple.

The Drs are striking because the woeful state of our health system is endangering patients (and them) and they simply can’t stretch themselves or their resources any further. It’s a last resort.
It is NOT them who need the lecture on ethics.

The select committee report on the Regulatory Standards Bill is in.
📝166,000 submissions.
❌98.7% opposed.
Yet National are going to continue supporting it.

What a bunch of utter numpties.

OMG the National Party totally screwed up the vote on the Broadcasting Bill. First they didn’t have signed proxies for the conscience vote. Then they didn’t have the 20 members in the house required for a conscience vote - so the vote is a nullity. Politics 101 learn to count !!!

The video shows a large, circular pool with white porcelain bowls of differing sizes gently nudging one another as the water randomly swirls them around. This installation is housed in a huge round gallery with a classically decorated, domed ceiling. Peace 🥰

Just my opinion but …
Postcard campaigns are quite impactful. A couple hundred emails don’t take up much inbox space and are easy to ignore, but a stack of postcards are impressive.
