Gaslighting.
The word I was searching for is gaslighting.
Been so long since I was a nine to noon listener. You’re seriously telling me they’re still doing a politics segment with the likes of Ben Thomas?
I mean, aside from a cheap way to fill dead air, what possible purpose does it serve to have a paid political operative tell us how we and be thinking.

Interesting thread
Sign in a big shop this afternoon saying that customers shouldn’t abuse shop workers. Calm down. Don’t get angry.

The queue was fucking massive. The company had clearly slashed staff levels to a point where it could *just* function. That’s the sweet spot, business-wise.

So customers are cross… >>

Bernard Hickey reporting that we could see TWO RBNZ rate hikes (& thus 2 mortgage rate hikes) before the election, which if very bad news for the Govt’s re election prospects.

Obv this was all Jacinda's fault.
And while I am messing w. food price data. Back to Eggs.

In getting rid of battery cage farming by 2023, in a free market it seems odd that "Free Range" (unaffected by the change) go up in price (since the chickens & farming density are unaffected) and maintain the same price deferential as before.

Today I saw a quote that “courage is contagious” & looking at the ppl of Minneapolis out in the streets I really want to believe it’s true.
I mean, anything’s possible: this week an actual politician named Trump’s fascism in an international forum.

This post calling Noem her friend is still up on Judith Collins facebook by the way, and there really aren't ANY good reasons at this point as to why NZ media aren't constantly pressuring her about it

You can be sure under the current govt, Aotearoa will be a very late addition to the list of countries boycotting the football World Cup.

Last year, I purposefully routed my trip to England to avoid the USA.
Paid more for my flight to do so.
But I know it's not safe there for queer folk like me.

It certainly isn't safe for people that aren't white.

So when do we stop sending athletes there?

Treat the US government and ICE claims like you'd treat a Russian government claim after they've shot down an airliner or bombed a hospital. America 2026.

Hang on. Inflation’s ON THE RISE???
Always worth a re-post when we get an update.
Amazes me that Govt get away with saying they have done anything notable to 'tame inflation'. Our peak was relatively low (we weren't exposed to global gas prices 😌), and, over the last year, Govt decisions have demonstrably increased CPI.

“Over the past ten years New Zealand has averaged 55.9 days annually under a State of Emergency each year, and 66.6 days over the last five. In the 10 years prior to this, New Zealand averaged only 13.4 days per year.”

Quick Q - how does recovery work with a rates cap in place and no govt. support🤔

Short, superb thread here.
dad is coming over tomorrow - 25th Jan - the anniversary of the day in 1999 when he popped into mitre10 for a tin of undercoat. his wife waited in the car. the undercoat was on special, stacked in a pyramid at the end of an aisle. he grabbed a tin by the handle. as he did so, it clipped another tin
