Forever learning, opinions mine. Generally annoyed about something.

This is why politicians don’t move from X, why people still engage with it as a platform, why our appalling stats on abuse remain appalling.
100% the below - there’s no consequences and no accountability if the people targeted have been dehumanised to the point they’re no longer considered people.
One of the things that gets me about them people who are like “they are ending the constitution to distract from the Epstein files, don’t fall for it” is that nobody in power cares about little girls.

The US is clearly hurtling into full blown fascism with global consequences and, in Aotearoa, our government can’t stop using the word friend to describe the administration.
I can’t recall a time when we’ve ever been a friend of fascism, but then, democracy in NZ is quickly looking different, too.
It goes without saying that in the US you’re not supposed to have a masked secret police that snatches people off the streets without knowing if they’ve committed a crime. That’s about as basic a requirement for a democracy as exists.
Having seen several abductions up close, it is really hard to convey how much the thing they’re doing is roaming in military convoys until they see someone who is alone and isn’t white, and then jumping out in large numbers, pulling them into a van, and screeching off, all in 90 seconds or so.

Interesting reading the Guardian article this morning and the Newsroom one tonight.
The Olympic-level twisting to justify operating on the same platform as deepfakes that overwhelmingly target women and girls is really something.

“Government ministers cannot be making policy announcements in a space that hosts AI-generated, near-naked pictures of young girls. Journalists cannot share their work in a place that systematically promotes white supremacy.“

Relevant to #nzpol and the choices being made by those we place trust in.
To anybody still using X: sexual abuse content is the final straw, it’s time to leave | Marie Le Conte
It was hard for me to quit Elon Musk’s poisoned platform, but I urge others to do the same, especially in light of Grok’s imagery of women and children, says journalist Marie Le Conte

“Rama and I feel lucky to be starting a new chapter the way so many New Yorkers have, by moving to a new part of the city.
We're grateful for the welcome to the UES and humbled to be tenants of Gracie Mansion, a home that belongs to the people.”

So desperate for decency I burst into tears at this.

Re-sharing for the new year, which is also an election year! If you agree, help us out by emailing your local MP asking why Labour and National have not yet signed this letter or committed to regulating AI deployment in NZ. #nzpol
We’ve published an Open Letter calling on NZ leaders to deliver risk-based AI regulation & a national oversight body. AI has huge potential, but harms (deepfakes, gendered abuse, bias) are real and rising. Read the Letter (and sign it if you agree!) #nzpol

Mostly no, because non-consensual intimate images are generated overwhelmingly by men, overwhelmingly targeting women, and New Zealand demonstrably employs misogyny as a tool in every sphere of life with zero qualms whatsoever, including our media, our politicians, and as evidenced here, our policy.
are any NZ media talking about grok and applying pressure, let alone any politicians??
BREAKING: Technology Secretary Liz Kendall says creating ”non-consensual intimate images”, including with X’s Grok, will be made illegal this week

They expect us to hold their hurt feelings as more pressing than our very lives. They’re not unclear about Ross killing Good. They’re trying to “but technically” their way into publicly saying she deserved to die like that.
Sorry, what? The federal “investigation” into ICE’s killing of an American is investigating the *victim*?

It’s almost like we live in a societal structure that consistently dehumanises and undermines women to the point where their participation, expertise and lived experience in any sphere is so devalued that all the worst men retain power and nobody does anything about it because those are the rules.
She warned us. Like Hillary, Kamala was right about everything.

Aside from these specific details being insane, a decade ago, if you’d pitched “US President declares total ownership of multiple countries within a two week period while posting in all caps and dismissing the murder of US citizens by his own Gestapo”, you’d have been kicked out of the writers room.
I can't believe I'm posting this video - but we actually have to have a conversation about the real world implications of America going to war over Greenland.

Let me walk you through it. It doesn't turn out well for us.

Trump once said “I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters.”

This is demonstrably true; he hasn’t fired the gun but US citizens have been killed over and over again in his name.

Democracy only works when representatives act on behalf of their citizens.

Reflecting that systemic, cultural, deliberate dehumanisation of women and girls has meant that there’s no broader change when a “shocking” revelation occurs.
It’s demonstrably clear what Trump is, but the pattern is that those with power and wealth choose dehumanisation over accountability any day.

“They were people like us.
But they also perpetrated horrible, monstrous acts on behalf of the ideology they believed in. Dehumanizing all the “others" was a tool that helped them achieve their goal.
The perpetrators thought of themselves as moral people.
And this is the scary part of this history.”

If they declare martial law in the US are we still friends with them?
Do we keep the FBI office in Wellington?
We’ve just undermined our elections with the passing of the Electoral Amendment Bill, following the US blueprint - the threat is real, and the next election the most consequential to date.

RNZ choosing to syndicate CNN here, and specifically an article that platforms, and even promotes, Vance and other fascists' views that the shooting was justified, while introducing doubt as to the actual reality we've all seen, is an absolute failure of RNZ staff. Wtaf are you all doing over there
