Meetings with Noem, Gosar, Patel, Hegseth. It’s like a Who’s Who of all the Worst People.
She’s also best buddies with Paul Gosar, a white supremacist racist shithead. Might be worth asking if Judith is just more comfortable with that crowd

The fact that her wife was in the car has just broken me.

There are just no words - but these might help.

The Homeland Security Secretary is Kristi Noem, who oversees the entire Department of Homeland Security (DHS), under which ICE operates.
IMO it’s important to query and challenge our elected representatives when they use the word “friend” to describe those enabling the murder of their own citizens.

Quite the encapsulation of how racism, anti-immigrant hatred, sexism & patriarchy & trying to return women to the home, & the neglect of early childhood/ willingness to harm children, are all bound up in one another.

That's why I don't "stick to one topic." These intersect. Fascism relies on all
What ICE was up to in Minnesota before they murdered a woman

Reminder for news outlets reporting the party line verbatim without context or critique:

“If someone tells you it's raining and another tells you it's dry, it's not your job to quote them both. It's your job to look out the fucking window and find out which is true.”

“Nice people made the best Nazis. My mom grew up next to them... They were lovely people who turned their heads as their neighbors were dragged away. You know who weren’t nice people? Resisters.”

NEW: MAYOR FREY: “They are already trying to spin this as an act of self defense. I’ve seen the video myself and I want to tell everybody directly; that is bullshit.”

History student here, if you've ever wondered how you got Nazis, this sort of absolute failure to meet the moment is how you get Nazis.

If vulnerable communities and people were allowed to shoot and kill white cis men every time they "feared for their lives" (aka got a bit upset/anxious at the cis white man's behaviour), you'd have an absolute bloodbath.

Toxic white male supremacist thinking is a cancer upon us.
It's so fucking convenient that they get to "fear for their lives" anytime they want to absolve themselves of anything and when we actually fear for our lives because of them and do anything a scared person would do it's justification for our death.

This murder by ICE is an escalation of the extreme violence that fascism’s enforcers are trying to normalise, and an extension of the misogyny deeply embedded in our culture - it’s always been there and has now been given explicit permission.
Violence is a spectrum, and these men thrive at one end.

“The weird men online have endless reservoirs of psychological dysfunction and large expanses of time to marshall their obsessions into people’s mentions. More often than not, they win.”

They win not just because there are no consequences but ‘decent men’ give them a seat at the table. #nzpol
Weird men are driving people out of politics
Their smear campaigns are ham-fisted and grotesque. They’re also working.

It is bonkers seeing the Venezuela and Greenland news being reported so casually like nothing to see here, the US controls everything now - which is not vastly different to prior ways of working but also we seem to keep saying things like Never Again every year, and weirdly, Again keeps happening.

Got a Manage My Health email reminder about an appointment I have this week - no “Hey, we’re working on the data situation you may have seen in the news, updates are coming, thanks for your patience” tagged on.
Odd call to make GPs etc the frontline for enquires, and choose not to formally address.

This is a very good read - and often very relevant to New Zealand.
New — I wrote about how corporate media is immediately siding with power in the wake of Trump attacking Venezuela and capturing Maduro, and how journalists need to treat the administration as a hostile entity that’s openly lying to them.
Call Trump's power grab in Venezuela what it is
Corporate media must recognize they're being openly lied to—and report accordingly.

“In extraordinary moments such as this, too many journalists behave as if they have more in common with billionaires destroying journalism than the 80 or so people killed in Venezuela by Trump’s airstrikes. If we’ve learned anything this past year, it’s that proximity to power does not equal power.”

Given the gravity of this situation you’d expect a few more articles on the front pages of our media and a few more reassurances from our leaders about what New Zealand’s values are.

I want to remind everyone that the US has sanctioned members of the International Criminal Court for going through a formal legal process to identify international leaders who engaged in war crimes, making them vulnerable to arrest.
STEPHANOPOULOS: Why wasn't congressional authorization necessary?

RUBIO: It wasn't necessary because this was not an invasion. We didn't occupy a country. This was an arrest operation.

“We came to the United States to ask the new Administration what it wants from New Zealand, and we conveyed what we would like from them.”
- Foreign Minister Winston Peters, March 2025

Just thinking out loud here but maybe we should double check exactly what the United States wants from us.
US President Donald Trump threatens to invade and attack other countries: “We have to do it again [in other countries]. We can do it again, too. Nobody can stop us." #VenezuelaInvasion
