Great to see this from individual MPs but when it’s not coming from the top, and there’s no official statement or press release on Labour’s website, this doesn’t bode well for a future where, following this trial balloon focusing on trans youth, further restrictions to healthcare are very likely.
Doctors and parents should make decisions about what is best for their kids health - not politicians. The Government has said doctors cannot give new prescriptions of puberty blockers to children who are suffering from gender dysphoria. That is putting kids at risk.

The banning of gender affirming care/ puberty blockers for trans kids is a TEST. This Luxon-led coalition is seeing how much pushback they receive on this issue to figure out how to ban abortion & contraception next term. They're anti-choice, they will act on this. #nzpol #abortion #pubertyblockers

It should be news until the ban is removed and I mean well-informed accurate news.

Articles that have trans health experts on one side vs misinfo & bigots on the other are unforgivable and part of the problem. Looking at you RNZ @rnzrss.bsky.social
This has still not been reported in any mainstream news that I can see - healthcare is a human right, and we’re currently actively normalising its removal.
Politicisation of healthcare is a hallmark of authoritarianism, and silence as trans rights are removed means an easier path for more erosion.

I am talking about Labour a lot because it’s deeply hypocritical to say you stand for Rainbow communities/ women and then say nothing official about a health change that targets trans youth/ is a trial balloon for future healthcare restrictions.
I’d say vote for those who have officially responded.

ALL WITHOUT throwing our takatāpui and wāhine whanau under the 'political capital' bus to appease patriarchal donors and oligarchs.

This kind of behaviour really makes me lose faith in politics and institutions as forces for progressive change.
I know Andrew Little didn’t run as a Labour candidate but was backed by Labour, and this week it really appears the T&Cs to “Women Are Worth It”* are *when it’s politically convenient.

The current govt just removed a lifesaving medical treatment from a minority class of people in breach of NZBORA, that is a big deal.

Imo this is on the same spectrum as the PoliceNZ scandal. Attacking women should be a disqualifier for any role and definitely an sppoitment that gives you power over others #nzpol 1/2

Women’s lives, our reputations, our safety are discounted. Misogny in action.

Hipkins jumped on bluesky after a 2month break to support Winston Peters here

Has so far refused to do the same to support the trans community in the face of destructive and, frankly, fatal policy that NZF and National delivered this week

Really showing his, and Labour's, priorities
The attack on Winston Peters home today was totally unacceptable. MPs homes are not the place to protest. No matter the cause, political violence is never ok and should be condemned. Free speech is healthy in a democracy, political violence is not.

“Coalition lauds 38k fewer victims of violent crime.”

When Luxon came into Govt they changed victimisation stats removing domestic & MH call-outs.

Healthcare access restrictions are part of the US blueprint we’re following - it’s inevitable that if the coalition are re-elected more healthcare restrictions will follow here.
We have a coalition that demonstrably does not believe in equity, in protecting vulnerable communities - it will happen.

It’s such a bloody good question. The removal of the human right to healthcare, based on nothing more than bigotry and transphobia, should be front page news until the Government that brought it into being are forced to reverse it.

This. Targeting trans youth is a test of how far they can push. If the coalition is re-elected, expect more restrictions. Note which parties are speaking out now and making official statements - they’re the ones likely to resist further erosion, and should be voted for strongly when the times comes.
Important 🧵
Attempts to constrain gender affirming health care are an attack on bodily autonomy and a politicisation of access to health care. It signals a willingness to constrain and control people's choices that every single one of us ought to be resisting, as vigorously as we can.
One of the things cis women have long fought for bodily autonomy with are cries such as "get your laws off my body" & "my body, my choice" ... trans folks are no different.

This is why the ban on puberty blockers for trans folks is so incredibly stupid and ideological.
