This pisses me off, man, seriously.
Ive watched his cops run up to a line and swing batons like baseball bats at the heads of protesters sitting on the sidewalk. Watched them trample protesters and press on horses. An LAPD cop *ran over* a protester past month. Highly trained? Don’t make me laugh

Missing from this statement is it is LAPD who often escalate these events into violence. “Highly trained” officers my ass

I’m a big evangelist for approaching political writing through the prism of literary analysis because when you actually do English lit style close reading of most political journalism you very quickly realize how little is actually being communicated
I’m genuinely confused reading this article what is being alleged to have happened. I assumed backchannel talks were happening with leadership’s approval, but none of what’s in the screenshots seems like Schumer dictating something that got heroically rejected by the caucus?

Friendly reminder that DHS brought in CBP to replace ICE in numerous positions across the nation last week. It’s why CBP has been everywhere this past week and also why the situation on the ground has worsened.

Seriously, you need to read this. Last Saturday in Echo Park was nuts as cops preemptively invaded the area before the World Series was even over and assaulted people with batons, horses and tear gas. @shoton35mm.bsky.social pieced the violence together in fantastic reporting.
One man who was walking to Gold Room bar had to get surgery on his finger after being shot with a “rubber bullet.”

Attention has (justly) gone to the abuses in Chicago but the assaults in Los Angeles never ended. The military left but they were guarding building. DHS paramilitaries remain active in L.A. it's bad.
Don’t think ppl understand the terror the Feds are unleashing on the streets of LA right now. Roving patrols targeting vulnerable individuals. It’s horrible.
There’s no one coming to save us except ourselves.

The past week+ has been really intense in Los Angeles. We need all of the help, support, & attention we can get. Feds are literally roving the streets snatch & grabbing vulnerable individuals. It's horrific. We need to do more.

Councilmember Ysabel Jurado has introduced a motion to protect journalists covering protests. The motion: LAPD will create a public campaign on how to obtain LAPD-issued press passes along w/ signing MoUs between press groups and the city to create an agreement on conduct at protests.

Rather than correcting the behavior of non-discriminant shooting by cops at protests, this shifts the blame towards press not having proper credentials. I doubt a mutual agreement will be honored by LAPD. It's not like there is a long history of them breaking laws and "agreements".

What annoys me the most is that all these people claim to be American history buffs, and American history is deeply entwined in African history in both extremely obvious and non-obvious ways. We have a Navy in the first place because of North African pirates!
i'm a very biased party here but pretty much everything about the Mamdani campaign and the discourse around it thus far is a pretty thorough vindication of Africana Studies
It is worth saying that putting “Africana studies” in scare quotes as if it’s a ridiculous concept is not a political argument. It’s just racism. “Africa is not worthy of a major” is the implication. Yeah dude you’re just racist. (From Gerard Baker at the WSJ today)
