No TERFs, SWERFs, or cop apologists please. A gestapo by any other name is still a gestapo. Genocide is bad, actually. So are concentration camps.

On the whole this hasn't been a great year but imo that's all the more reason to recognize when we have wins that show we are not powerless.

Right now, the Trump Administration is basically getting routed and/or in retreat on several key fronts.

We are not powerless! We can do things! Consider-

when my DACA former students and friends ask me under Obama if they should place their names on the list, I replied "Just remember how lists have been used in US history". I never said do or don't, just to remember and here we are.
“Dreamers by the hundreds of thousands gave the govt their personal info in exchange for a promise they would not be deported.”

but congress never acted & now the regime is targeting the DACA recipients who only trusted the government
Then they came for the Dreamers
Immigrants brought here as children were told they wouldn’t be deported. Now, they’re being targeted anyway.

The Republican Party became a Nazi party in order to activate the Nazi vote, and now the Nazis are cleaning house.
I know that this site leans quite left, so I very much hope that people will recognize the significance of this news. The right is cleaving, and the side triumphing — in terms of sheer numbers and media coverage — needs to be understood for exactly what it is: authoritarian and bigoted.

The only people dazzled by it are CEOs who can't see past the dollar signs.

This is what genAI "guardrails" are, and why they are inherently insufficient.

genAI inherently outputs the statistically most likely sequence of words, and "guardrails" are basically just a list of words to filter from that output to the user.

And they stole literally all the words to train on.
One way of thinking about genAI is:

Suppose you steal every English word on the internet, and then look up what words are most likely to follow the word "throbbing."

And then whenever you see "throbbing" you slap on a likely word

You're gonna end up talking about throbbing dicks in weird contexts
