Okay Bluesky, here's a reminder of who I am and what I'm about. I'm the author of a memoir about working as an Uber driver after my divorce and how the gig economy lures in and exploits vulnerable people.

On some Friday nights, I do a ride-along thread where I post about people I'm meeting.
13 years ago I decided I was going to wear a Hawaiian shirt to work every Friday.

I haven't missed a Friday yet.
One thing people kind of tell you, but not really, about middle age:

One day you'll be like "oh [thing] looks fun but people will think I'm a loser" about a thing

And then you'll say. Wait a second.

Fuck 'em
Darn Tough turned me on to Cute Socks and I've never looked back

Counterpoint: if you have extraordinary leverage, you get to make extraordinary demands.

Democrats could have waited until planes were falling out of the sky on a daily basis and the entire federal workforce was ready to revolt, and everyone would know it was Trump's fault.

Instead...
Now for some levity and logic based in facts.

Democrats could have had "Trump cancelled Thanksgiving" and instead decided to lose.

I was traditionally published, but I can tell you that every reply and DM and kind word was influential in convincing me to work on the novel I'm finishing up.
On behalf of all self-published authors, I authorize you to reach out & tell us if you really enjoyed something we wrote.

We’re all dog-paddling in a sea of self-doubt & impostor syndrome & those little messages mean a lot.

Unless stated otherwise, our DMs/inboxes are always open for kind words 💞

An eyewitness account of conditions in Broadview detention center. It is exactly as bad as you think: the place is a degrading, dehumanizing, violent facility designed to force migrants to agree to deportation just to make their mistreatment stop.
A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

In political science, this is called "plural voting," and in the very few places where it has been tried, it is a disaster every time. No matter how you award extra votes, it ends up being the elites who get them. Elites then rig the system in their favor, and you can't outweigh them.
The emphasis on family policy is very evident in Heritage’s policy work.

One draft paper we obtained proposed a “Manhattan Project” for more babies.

A subsequent draft floats giving straight married couples an extra “half vote” in federal elections for each of their children.

Biology has taught me that we are all just big sacks of water and amino acids. Also, we are incredibly complex and far smarter than simple models can explain.
Bacteria can sense when a virus starts shredding their genome — by detecting methylated mononucleotides.
Here’s the story of how we discovered the Metis defense system 👇

I said I had big news, and I do.

I'm done with rideshare work. Many of you first met me as the anonymous Uber driver on Twitter who posted about the everyday people I was meeting. It was a second job for me.

That time in my life is over.

This thread is astonishing. Bovino is clearly a total psychopath. He feels neither regret nor remorse and thinks all violence that his people inflict is justified and laudable.

I can think of no other word to describe him but monster.
Lawyers are about to play portions of U.S. Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino's deposition.
Ellis asks if it's fair to say Black's experience has "placed a burden" on his faith?

Black: "Absolutely, yes."

Vote with hate in your heart.

Be militant with your vote.

Your vote is the weapon of civility against the confederate animal.

They voted for every awful thing that is happening to you.

The sword cuts both ways.

Let their hearts explode with rage and fear at the America we create for ourselves

I have faith that the games I purchased from Steam twenty years ago are still available and playable today. I have no such faith in a product from Amazon.
I legitimately didn't know they were competing with Steam and it's crazy to me that they burnt so much money on what sounds like something with very little (or wildly misguided) market research.

Officially admitting that we've missed the 1.5C target is significant, but nations were never serious about stopping climate change. Everyone paid lip service and hoped someone else would give up economic growth for an invisible goal. They never cared at all.

You should see the blinding, white out panic this is causing among medicine and nursing students. Medical school can cost a quarter million to a half million dollars, and loans now cap at 150,000. Nurse anesthesia programs can run 150-250k. Some schools require you not to work during the program.

More cool bacteria stuff from my microbiology class. This is two varieties of staph on mannitol salt agar.

The pink medium turns yellow if the bacteria can ferment mannitol.

Fifteen years ago (when we had a cat), I would occasionally break into "When the lights go down on the kitty."

Miso was never amused.
what little songs do you sing to your pets. I sing kittycat, kittycat, here comes a kittycat to the tune of lollipop by the chordettes. I don’t know why I do it and I can’t stop
