(Semafor) - The New York Times and Washington Post learned of a secret US raid on Venezuela soon before it was scheduled to begin Friday night — but held off publishing what they knew to avoid endangering US troops ..

Journalism needs to be purged of people who don't actually do work and instead make hare brained dictates on high for their own personal enhancement.

Twitter broke the brains of so many people and convinced them this profession is about clout and being rich.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

Among the constitutional amendments we will need is one explicitly ending the presidential immunity that the Supreme Court established with Trump v. United States.

Law enforcement will say that they don't go after people like Bundy because he is "heavily armed" and it is "dangerous." Funny how they only say this about white guys.
The Malheur National Wildlife Refuge standoff began 10 years ago today.
In April of 2025, The Tribune interviewed Ammon Bundy, now living in southern Utah as a fugitive — though law enforcement has shown little interest in arresting him.

Even with an Idaho warrant out for his arrest, Ammon Bundy said he is not overly concerned about being collared by police while he lives in Utah.

Among the many reasons you don’t kidnap a foreign head of state at gunpoint even if you have the capability, is that it sparks consequences you can neither control nor anticipate.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s final print edition is today. The 157-year-old newspaper, once the most important news outlet in the South with a massive circulation of 720,000 subscribers, is going all digital. Their article about it is paywalled, which seems like a missed opportunity.

"Being an investigative journalist will expose you to cowardice from your higher-ups, and even occasional bravery from them. When either reaction occurs, the newsroom...takes sharp notice, and draws lessons for their own work about what will and will not be publishable."
As it happens, I have experience with high-level government demands to stop an explosive, accurate story from running, and I also have experience with 60 Minutes spiking a story I was involved in, so I have thoughts about the travesty at CBS. If you want some journalism anecdotes, here are a lot:

tonight I learned, from the Seattle Times' lawsuit alleging Seattle police violated state public records law and a settlement with the Times, that SPD rushed to respond to a KOMO records request, providing documents in less than a month that a Times reporter had been waiting on for almost 2 years.
