Weird works

Finally, a day when I can watch every Die Hard and think about the Roman Empire without interruption.

Exactly!

Totally agree! I always teach my students about theory by starting with the idea of an in-joke that you have with friends—one word or phrase that brings a whole package with it.

2025’s and of the year meme?
This is how I would end the news if I was reading the news.

I just read the first dozen pages…takes awhile to get through those two first footnotes!

It is time to reveal the smelter that keeps it going and which must never cool.

Closing out my year with a journal editor shocker 🧵

Checking new manuscripts today I reviewed a paper attributing 2 papers to me I did not write. A daft thing for an author to do of course. But intrigued I web searched up one of the titles and that's when it got real weird...

Congratulations!!!

Amazing!

Thanks to everyone who has helped make this a great year for @areajournal.bsky.social! Authors, reviewers, and our intrepid managing editor!

Just on Nature's submission site and see "article types" is now "content types" and the distinction of academic from content creator seems that much blurrier by the day.
A frequent reaction to queer-trans animality that I touch on in this piece is the charge of anthropomorphism. Strategic anthropomorphism has many advantages, one of which is to show how misuse of cishet norms & constructs distorts science (courtship, anyone?) doi.org/10.1080/0966369X.2025.2504375

I’ve got one from around then. Even had my MP involved at one point. So long and drawn out I managed to include it in an article I wrote on FOI methods:
