Every academic career is built on rejection, but we don’t show it.

CVs list publications, grants & awards, not rejected manuscripts, unfunded proposals, or failures.

But those invisible rejections shape us more than our successes ever do.

If you miss a particular topic or sub-discipline, now is your chance to help shape the program! The conference has currently opened a general Call for Session Proposals. You can submit proposals through the website, all you need is a title and a short abstract.

The Scientific Committee of the BeNeLux Geography Conference has curated a first set of proposed sessions to kickstart our intellectual exchange. From countermapping and the governance of AI infrastructure, to bridging the natural and social perspectives within our discipline.

The conference is organized by the geographical communities of the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg, and will provide an opportunity to present and debate work in geography and spatial planning as well as ample opportunities for informal conversation and networking.

On 8-10 April 2026 the inaugural “BeNeLux Geography” conference will be held in Leuven, Belgium.

Insurance is the canary in the coal mine of what the future will most likely hold….
“If we continue, however, with the policies that we have out there, we are clearly on a pathway now of 2.7 degrees or 3 degrees where adaptation is simply not doable anymore. This is just what it is. We cannot protect Amsterdam from sea level rise of 3m. This is just not doable,” Thallinger said.
Why insurers worry the world could soon become uninsurable
Günther Thallinger, a board member at Allianz, one of the world's biggest insurers, says the climate crisis could make adaptation economically unviable.

Labour is pitching the New Towns announcement today as a return to the "transformative post-war housing boom under Clement Attlee".

Actually it looks much more like housing policy under Blair, or even Thatcher and Boris Johnson (thread)
