It’s always a joy to see my art being a part of people’s homes and lives. With international wetland day just round the corner, this photo of ‘Wild narcissi’ from Annie Lee is timely

If you have my artwork on your walls, do send me a photo to brighten my day!

Monday and the start of a second week of being prevented from working by my employer, the University of Sheffield. Management has decided that massive damage to staff morale, student experience and the university’s reputation is worth it in a futile attempt to break the union. Shame on them.
Well that’s me locked out. No pay for the foreseeable future, all because I refuse to reschedule lost teaching, for which I have already lost pay as part of the strike. Please donate to support @sheffielducu.bsky.social members like me at www.gofundme.com/f/heubvb-sup...

It sucks how the world generally forces unwaged disabled people into the shittiest and oldest available houses. It *literally* needs to be the other way around, lol. Even something as basic as cleaning a counter becomes so much easier when you live in a newly built, moderately resourced apartment...

How about immersing yourself in this truly remarkable, clever & visually stunning piece of work by @sagebrice.bsky.social?
She has crafted a superb call for the liberatory promise of queer/trans ecological sensibilities for critical social science, using comics.

Received official notice today that my employer will be withholding 100% of pay for the next three weeks, to myself and all other members of @sheffielducu.bsky.social who refuse (as is our legal right, and our solidaristic duty) to reschedule classes cancelled due to strike action. Outrageous.

TIL it’s #penguin awareness day, and that this is considered a valid excuse for posting penguin themed things, such as the following article (which is, ultimately, not about penguins): doi.org/10.1080/0966369X.2025.2504375

There’s plenty of extra content to be found in the image notes, and in the pregnant space between these, the drawings themselves, and the main text. For example, this behavioural diagram of wolves expands on a discussion of competition, cooperation, and ‘natural values’ (Image note in alt text)

Academics - we should be very worried about and acting to avoid this language becoming adopted by funders, universities, our institutions.
The ferocity with which the vile phrase “a biological male who identifies as a woman” is being embedded across multiple media in Britain is horrifying. It shows how quickly support for eliminationist attacks against trans and gender diverse people is being solidified

'“Embedded precarity” in higher education is diminishing research quality as staff on short-term contracts favour “safer” work to secure future employment, according to the author of a new report.'

Royal Geographical Society maps important connections between precarity and research topics. 1/3
Use of fixed-term posts ‘stifling more critical research’
Scholars with short contracts seen as more likely to favour doing ‘safer’ work, with ‘serious ramifications’ for their disciplines

You fasten all the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you sit back & watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
While the young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

Useful reporting from Translucent. When we’ve suggested that trans women don’t pose a risk, people have argued that’s because of under reporting. These FOI requests suggest that might not be the case
