565 years ago, on the 30th of December 1460, Richard of York was killed by Lancastrians during the Battle of Wakefield. This did not end the War of The Roses as Richard's son Edward inherited his father's claim to the English throne, one he would successfully press only months later. #otd #history 🗃️

This year the British establishment covered up this new #Banksy.

Can we get it Retweeted 10,000 times to show that they can never cover up their complicity in war crimes??

I know I'm late to the party on this, but I just loved @nicolaz.bsky.social's _Hild_ and _Menewood_. Gorgeous world-building and wonderful characters. It feels like there's a third book coming, although hopefully with a shorter lag than that between the first two? www.amazon.com/Hild-Novel-L...

From Baird’s memoirs, Television and Me:
‘ It was an extremely successful show. … The spectators were apt to linger and Hutchinson, who was acting as M.C., made himself extremely unpopular by hustling many eminent dignitaries of the scientific world who were not accustomed to such treatment.’

No, we don't have to accept hallucinatory, ecosidic creative stealing LLMs. The genie not only can be put back in the bottle, we need to do so. Accepting this as the state of affairs that we have to accept and going forward is an enormous mistake.

Also at the Leeds BAAS meeting in 1927: J.L. Baird who gave a talk on his new-fangled process, television. He also demonstrated his ‘Noctovision’, an early form of night vision.

I like to imagine Heisenberg being ’scanned’ for Baird’s ‘Noctovisor’!

As I reposted this diagram it occurred to me that I’m sitting here reading a book that was printed 90 years ago, cost me almost nothing, and remains in perfectly good condition (albeit a bit faded and spotted). Not sure how much we are producing now that will still be useable in 90 years time.
Handy guide to the British Aristocracy from GDH Cole’s The Simple Case for Socialism 1936. Particularly like the fact that both ‘Poor Relations’ and ‘Company Directors’ appear to be ejected from the charmed spiral.

Of course the organisation now calling for people to stop being vegan in order to reduce factory farming [insert a million eye-rolls here] are part of the effective altruism movement. Of course they are. Starting to think these people might just be baddies.

Best wishes for a swift and full recovery!

I rather think what has put Dyson's "family business¹" at risk is selling fucking hugely overpriced non-essential sucky-blowy machines.

¹ Does he want us to think Dyson is like some kind of local greengrocer or something? The massive splat of jizz.
