Some of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing a text, writing an email, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we can’t do things we’ve been doing since the dawn of time.

So you can be arrested for supporting imprisoned peaceful protesters who may die on hunger strike. Interesting. The government makes itself worse and more cruel daily. Excellent of Greta Thunberg to do this to heighten concern for their plight.

So the chocolate Christmas house did not go to plan. The roof collapsed so it’s flat now and the chimney…well I don’t know what happened with that. I blame the 6 year old. Also I ate the doors and windows.

Scrolling through old folders of pictures and found this. It was the height of lockdown with two young kids and I had essentially lost all sense of control and order. As you can see, chaos reigned supreme.

When working in the archive of St Mary’s Church in Chennai, I opened a large volume of burial records only for some white-ish powder to sprinkle out on the floor. Later I described it to one of the archivists. Oh, that’s arsenic powder, he said. They put it in to kill bugs that might eat the pages.

After finishing Steinbeck’s phenomenal East of Eden (Samuel Hamilton goes right alongside Gus McCrae as the literary characters I would die for), I’m now moving onto this little novella. It’s giving Moby Dick vibes. Always like a story I can finish in one sitting.

I despise football (as a kid culturally stifled with it by my father's Liverpudlian family) and so never bothered to engage with it with my 6 year old. But he came home from school saying a few kids made fun of him as didn't know who any of the players were.

Sigh. I've just ordered a book on it...!
