My latest for @hyperallergic.com looks at a late Roman shipwreck (ca. 320 CE) found off the coast of Mallorca with over 300 amphorae. A ton of implications for understanding early Christian trade and of course … garum 🐠 Thanks to @hakimbishara.bsky.social for edits! hyperallergic.com/1056159/near...

Obviously, it’s been a tough day for the BBC. Big organisations, working under big pressure, will sadly make errors
But I still feel huge pride in hosting a BBC podcast, and having previously spent 11 years making a world-renowned children’s show that no other broadcaster would have made

Okay, here are some first reflections on Watson.
Watson's life is a tragedy, really of Shakespearean proportions. He did not, as most bios will tell you, do one great thing when he was young and then collect laurels for it for the next 60 years. His career arc was unlike any in science.

I love that the Boston cop slide never got fixed and now people just willingly go down it in tribute. It’s basically a national landmark at this point

2-2 is a solid point, and Spurs didn’t deserve the smash and grab nearly-winner, but the main thing is we look so much better with Udogie and Odobert on the left. Pleased for Tel, pleased for Richy, pleased for Odobert — but we must create more in possession, Xavi constantly had nothing ahead of him

Spurs look much more muscular and up for it, but they’re still not connecting midfield to the forwards at all. Kolo Muani may as well pull out a deck chair #COYS

You’ve probably seen a lot of stuff about James Watson stealing Rosalind Franklin’s DNA research. Read this clear article by two eminent historians of science to understand what *actually* happened 👇
If I see one more stupid Rosalind Franklin take I'm going to lose my mind. Thank god for @matthewcobb.bsky.social and @nccomfort.bsky.social. www.nature.com/articles/d41...
What Rosalind Franklin truly contributed to the discovery of DNA’s structure
Franklin was no victim in how the DNA double helix was solved. An overlooked letter and an unpublished news article, both written in 1953, reveal that she was an equal player.
