You can't control a military along with a massive paramilitary, do nothing in this situation and expect people to only protest.

I don't support violent retaliation from people. But dude, what are their options?

There is an illegal invasion of the state and you're choosing not to defend it.
State investigators have been on the scene in North Minneapolis.

I know you’re angry. I’m angry. What Donald Trump wants is violence in the streets.

But Minnesota will remain an island of decency, of justice, of community, and of peace.

Don’t give him what he wants.

Seriously. I have issues with how the press handles statements from law enforcement—but this is something else. This admin, this agency, these same officials have constantly lied the whole time, including lying about events on video. It is dishonest for journalists to simply repeat their claims.
WHY are news stations reading DHS statements out loud as if they have ANY credibility at all? They literally murdered a woman in cold blood LAST WEEK and are still lying about what happened, even though we can see what happened. That any credibility would be given to their statement is insane

It will become increasingly important for people to take video and protect and save that video so that when there is finally an accounting for what’s happening, there will be evidence.

The reason why Dems like Newsom feel like they can't poll well on supporting trans people isn't because trans rights doesn't poll well.

It's because they hate trans people too much to be able to explain why they support our rights to exist, even as a lie. They look like idiots and cede the issue.
BEN: in politics it's a barrier to entry 4 ppl when a boy can become a girl
GAV: i respect if that's ur barrier to listening to ppl, so be it, it is what it is

I love when you tell people how terrible Newsom is, they're always like, "Well, it's nice to have ideals, but if it comes down to him or the Nazi in the general, *I* am going to vote for him"

WE'RE TELLING YOU HOW TERRIBLE HE IS NOW SO IT'S *NOT* A CHOICE BTW HIM & A NAZI, CARL. THAT'S THE POINT.

I was thinking about this dynamic today in regard to his "I'll invoke the Insurrection Act" song and dance. At this point he's been saying he'd use it for almost 5 years.

Remember: TACO.
smarter people than me can get into the various legal nuances and such. i trust you all when you say he can't actually do it! but it is important to remember that trump is a soft pudding bitch, and he folds like a paper card table at any sign of pushback

This is the dynamic across most of America: Liberal cities generate revenue, which state governments then transfer to benefit conservative rural areas, whose residents despite city-dwellers and consistently vote to harm them. But politicians endlessly pander to rural voters and demonize cities.
Another critical piece of missing context in this story: tax dollars flow from the MSP metro to rural Minnesota. People in the city subsidize the lifestyles of people living in the country minnesotareformer.com/2023/12/04/t...

The way that these guys are being constantly embarrassed, pushed around, and mobbed in a way they absolutely cannot control by the public in an increasingly dramatic fashion is giving me hope.
Today at the Whipple Federal Building in Minnesota while federal agents rushed the protest crowd, one agent is filmed pushing a protester and slipping on ICE. Another agent has his pepperball gun broken and he slips on the cartridge holder while dropping pepperballs all over.

Yes, there will be elections. Sure, they'll be "free & fair," in the way 🇺🇸 elections are always "free & fair" (i.e., mass voter suppression & gerrymandering already make us not a real democracy), now also with paramilitaries walking around.

The real question is what happens on the day in Jan 2027:
I'm with you on ~99% here & agree many don't grasp all of this in your 🧵. But I also worry about the last mile, where the GOP lies about voter fraud, Vance refuses to seat new Dem Senators, & the GOP plays games in the House to not seat new Reps 👇. It may be low probability but it's still nonzero.

the question to ask about this is, okay, he wants to cancel the midterms. how does he get the VA state board of elections to cancel the midterms? how does he get the georgia board of elections to do it? how does he convince republican house members to quit their jobs and give up their paychecks?
Trump says a lot of deranged shit, but, per this Reuters article — and the threats of invoking the Insurrection Act in Minnesota this morning — he is very clearly exploring how to cancel the midterms.

And the US is throwing it away, because Americans elected a govt ideologically opposed to truth, science, merit, and racial/gender equality, preferring to weaken the country to reduce that.

People really reacting to this without all the details. I am sure there are good and legitimate reasons why President Trump is taking the oil revenue ransom he extorted from Venezuela and is putting into a Middle Eastern bank account that Congress cannot control.
The main bank account holding revenue from the Venezuelan oil sales is located in Qatar.

“There is no basis in law for a president to set up an offshore account that he controls so that he can sell assets seized by the American military,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

The faces ppl make when I say this and then, when they try to explain it to me, I go "I wasn't asking." It's funny in a really depressing way how inconceivable it is to so many that I have zero desire to ever use that thing.
People think I’m exaggerating when I say this, but I have absolutely no idea how to access ChatGPT. I don’t know if it’s an app, a website, or software that I have to download. I don’t care because I’ll never use it. But the people that think it’s universal have no idea how many people are like me.
Until I saw this "challenge" earlier today, I didn't even know how to access ChatGPT.
Having seen how easy it is, I'm even more determined to never use it and mock those who do for their "writing."
