Seriously, please find your thing and do it.
I cannot emphasize enough the importance of finding one constructive real world offline thing you can do to use your particular skills in service of fighting fascism as a psychological defense against the constant drumbeat of fuckery
my hot take is that I don't think it's this website specifically that's toxic. the Circumstances are toxic and nobody really knows what to do about it so they come online and scream. and if I may offer an alternative: actually going outside and screaming feels better.

This is why I’m pushing for a state escrow account that holds federal funds before sending them on to Washington. If Trump wants to steal our tax dollars that were legally appropriated by Congress, then we should just be paying ourselves.
“Minnesota, New York, California, Illinois and Colorado will be cut off from around $7 billion in funding for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, which provides cash assistance to households with children, according to two people familiar with the matter.”

Monstrously cruel.

Of course impeachment doesn’t have the votes to pass, but that doesn’t mean making the case isn’t worthwhile. Today’s dissent is tomorrow’s majority opinion. But you have to start by making the case. It’s a process, not a button you push. Let’s start the process.

For all that the media has spent years freaking out about what social media does to our brains, I don’t understand why there appears to be little effort to grapple with the fact that these chatbots are, for some not insignificant portion of the population, literally psychosis machines

Been saying something like this for a while. There's no going back to the status quo. Whatever comes after can't and won't be the same as our first 250 years. Something better must be built with the same disregard for norms and decorum that the old thing was destroyed with.
I know this gives folks big feelings & I want to make space for that, but we’re in “pessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will” territory here. What we are experiencing now are the inevitable & historical consequences of the system we have. A new one is simply what is required.

I don’t love you and I’m not holding your hand: call your Senator and tell them that the must shut down the government on January 30th until this ends, a thing that Democrats have the hard power to do at this very moment.
I love you all and am holding your hand as I say this:

Dems wield zero hard power levers
it's kind of crazy that there's even any question that democrats are going to do anything about this

This war and extra-judicial kidnapping is patently illegal and unconstitutional. Political leaders on both sides must condemn it. It’s not about whether Maduro is a tyrant but whether the US is still governed by laws and the Constitution. As if this morning, we are clearly not.

Excellent article making a bold, unsettling claim—the administration views the history of segregation and its influence on the nation as a threat to its nativist program—and backing it up with detailed technicality on the political stakes of disparate impact liability. Great work.
