I like Deep Space 9 so I enjoyed an episode of Starfleet Academy basically being a tribute to the show. Simple man, simple pleasures.

A biography of Benjamin Sisko course really would be a great upper division history course Starfleet Academy, especially since different people could teach it in different ways.

Frankly I'm surprised we haven't gotten a wave of pro AI propaganda dressed in leftist language before, people absolutely adore making "things that are personally convenient for me" and dressing it in social justice language

on the balance i think partisan gerrymandering is bad but the only way it ends is if democrats weaponize it against republicans everywhere they can. wiping out republican lawmakers in blue states might bring the GOP to the table to end the practice.

Good news is we got here early enough to blunder through all the unknowns and now my son is with his group and I am on the mezzanine listening to the harps practice. 🖖🏻

It’s depressing to hear that Ian McKellen will be playing Gandalf again. Surely he’s hogged the role for long enough and it’s time to give Timothée Chalamet a turn

I would like to say one thing here:
This reply section is how old Twitter used to be before the bot invasion and blue check automated replies. Just people chiming in, building on the joke. I used to love scrolling through comment sections like this. That‘s what made early Twitter so fun.

it's not just that Mamdani is charming af (he is), it's that he is normalizing the idea that children are full members of society that we all share a collective responsibility for

"Reporter: Do any of you have a favorite animal?

Child: My favorite one is a gold snake that can move. It has gold eyes, and it has a super-duper tail…

Mamdani: Yes. It’s also the golden snake."

One of my "we're winning" metrics is when the regime starts sounding like a wimp-ass Dem senator press release and "well it was a staffer who posted it by accident, but it would be fine if the President did post it, but also we deleted it" is like an 8 maybe 8.5 on the Schumer Scale.

Great little thread. Something I keep forgetting and then suffering from over and over the last 15ish years. My second piano teacher was the first one to clue me into this when he said, "you've got to stop listening to Glenn Gould, you're going to get a complex."
"talent is a gatekeeping mechanism" is an Instant Classic, obviously, but there's something under the hood of that thread that rings true.

We're all, thanks to mass media, very used to seeing the best possible versions of everything we might do, and that really can be discouraging.
