Hey! Bud! You sitting down for dinner right now? Too many of your comrades are going hungry. For a few bucks, you can help a ton of them. Do your part, homie
Alright you beautiful protein shake swilling hogs, the orange man has continued to be bad and people are going hungry. So it's time to help people. Y'all know I wouldn't tap your gains for a bad cause. I've chipped in and hope y'all are able to too.

This thread is one of those “Every James Ellroy book is nonfiction” deals
With SNAP benefits going to shit because of rich assholes and corruption running rampant through politics I'd like to point your attention to a Clinton.

No, not one of those Clintons. This Clinton. Clifford Clinton.

ICE is stockpiling arms, including chemical weapons, guided missile warheads and explosive components. The spending dwarfs anything we've ever seen in the agency - a 700% increase.

The President is building an army to attack his own country.

This is a really good chart for expressing federal research funding!

Uncle Sam is *very* interested in weapons, substantially interested in medicine (or was...), only somewhat interested in other science and almost not at all interested in arts or humanities.

found exactly the one use of “evil recoils in the presence of Christ” I am willing to sign off on, HOOOOOOOOLY SHIT

Father Larry did not come here to fuck around
Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

It's always good to see priests who still remember there are *seven* Catholic social principles. Also, that noise you hear is the USCCB screeching to the Vatican and getting back nothing, lol

This piece is, absolutely no joke, one of the smarter takes on the actual contentious politics/social movement dynamics of what’s going on right now that I’ve seen, I am nerding the fuck out over it, and I can’t wait to see social movement scholars unpack it more rigorously

Ok farm facts are back!

China is so much of the global soybean market, you can't make up losing them by selling to other countries. There isn't enough soybean demand in the world to fill that dent.

And farmers... know that.

If you started paying attention to the US in 1960, this sure feels like the darkest timeline. But unfortunately, purges against Black & brown people are normal US behavior.

You know what's NOT normal US behavior?

This is the first time there's been a mass movement to STOP a purge in real time.

Great thread. I grew up in (what I didn’t know was) an unusually diasporically-integrated South Asian-American community, where refugees of South Asian descent from Uganda were anchors of our community alongside immigrants from India, Pakistan & elsewhere. This context is key to understand.
My mom and stepdad are from the same diaspora group as Zohran Mamdani’s dad (same like “my stepdad was kicked out of the same town and knows some of his classmates”) and apparently the New York Times doesn’t understand how diaspora works, so I am going to tell you a little about my mom’s people!
