I called for a Canadian arms embargo and trade restrictions on the UAE until it stops funding the RSF and for Canadian weapons manufacturers to be held accountable for their complicity in the Senate today, I also called for Canada to adopt bill c-233 (1/4)

I’ll be in London in two weeks to talk about the politics of hunger in Sudan. I’d love to see some of my London fam (not necessarily for the talk :))
Why is Sudan—rich in land, livestock, and gold—facing mass hunger?
Join @nisrinelamin.bsky.social at LSE to unpack the extractive politics behind famine.

"Today, hunger and starvation are used by the RSF and army as a strategic weapon of war...But these deadly tactics of obstruction, displacement, and starvation alone cannot account for the crisis levels of hunger people are currently facing."

An excellent and important piece of writing
I wrote this essay in the current Sudan issue of Transition Magazine titled "The Politics of Hunger" which argues that the current hunger crisis has been decades in the making. It begins with Nimeiri and looks at US engagement over the decades.

A humble request: if you’re asking Sudani folks for teach-ins, speaking requests, media engagements etc consider planning them far in advance to sustain the attention on Sudan and to help ppl manage the overwhelming number of requests coming in atm.

Sudan can seem like two well-armed egos battling it out while the Sudanese people starve, but this excellent article by @nisrinelamin.bsky.social gives essential context for - "A hunger crisis triggered by the current war but decades in the making"

pick just one fund and set up a recurring donation
Recurring donations are virtually the only support coming in for survival funds—times are tough which is also why folks are canceling them, but please don’t cancel just because you think the need is gone 😔 these families will die because people forgot them. And apps like this will ensure that.

There is never any excuse for pushing or getting physical with women (or anyone else for that matter) at a protest just because you and your bros disagree with their opinion. It's truly unacceptable.
