Sudan can seem like two well-armed egos battling it out while the Sudanese people starve, but this excellent article by @nisrinelamin.bsky.social gives essential context for - "A hunger crisis triggered by the current war but decades in the making"

Mamdani's victory wasn't only a repudiation of an old and exhausted political establishment in the city, it was also a triumph over the framing power of the political press, and none more so than the New York Times, whose coverage and editorials worked relentlessly to dampen his appeal.

This just sucks.

RIP Teen Vogue, long live Lex McMenamin!
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

Between this and the Louvre prosecutor describing the suspects’ statements as “minimalist” while bragging that they had worked on the case over a weekend it’s an absolutely incredible week for Frenchness
A French cyclist survived for three days after a horrendous 130-foot fall into a ravine, kept alive by the bottles of red wine he had in his shopping bag, police said.

Literal dehumanization.

I work with young refugees in camps who earn money by taking photos & making videos for NGOs.

They are stealing vital income from the people they are supposedly raising money to help... just so they can post a “Photorealistic kid in refugee camp” without parental consent.
You already know this is bad, but I absolutely guarantee the details in this article are at least 12x as bad as you think they are

I'm really curious what realignment Raila's passing will bring about.

GenZ is an emerging constituency for opposition politicians to court and the youth movement's commitment to being both "tribeless" and "leaderless" make it hard to predict what comes next.

@nanjala.bsky.social's question is key
A narrative vacuum now exists in Kenyan politics. Ruto has the least legitimacy of any president in democratic Kenyan history. He was in the process of buying legitimacy and political capital from figures like Raila. How will the political class respond to the vacuum? is my question of the day.

"the United States should avoid “the concentration of non-native citizens” in order to promote assimilation."

The reason immigrants have historically adapted and integrated well is in VERY large part due to enclaves.
