Merry Christmas, everyone!

Cookie books can be a lot of fun, but We Energies continues to put coal (and methane) in our stockings year after year.

In addition to raising our electric rates, they have repeatedly dragged their feet on clean energy projects, and kept coal plants active long after they promised to close them.

At least 30 people have died in ICE custody in less than a year under the current administration. With the massive increase in detainments, conditions inside ICE detention facilities will only get worse, leading to even more deaths.

Politicians from both parties have been propping up a broken healthcare system for far too long. The fact is that a single-payer “Medicare for All” type system is extremely popular. Even about half of self-identified Republicans would support it.

What are we waiting for?

FACT: WI parents overwhelmingly choose public schools for their kids.

Despite the costly expansion of private school vouchers over 20 yrs, which allow parents to send their kids to private, mostly religious schools at taxpayer expense, the percentage of kids going to public school has not changed.

I have the utmost respect for Judge Hannah Dugan as a public servant. I firmly disagree with a federal case being made out of her actions related to the immigration arrest at the County Courthouse this spring.

The WI Legislature continues to starve local gov'ts of the resources needed to maintain critical public services, while repeatedly making our state tax code more regressive and more reliant on property taxes. Enough!

As Americans we pay the highest healthcare costs in the world.
As Wisconsinites we pay the 5th-highest healthcare costs in the U.S.

Despite their nonprofit status, the CEO of Atrium, parent of Aurora, made $25.7 million in 2024 - more than the top-paid WI for-profit executives, & up 49% from 2023.

Making someone else's life easier does not make your life any harder.
Making someone else's life harder does not make your life any easier.

Do not let the divide and conquer politics of the MAGA distract you - we are all in this together.

Because the Republican-controlled legislature inexplicably provided a $0 increase to general school aids in the most recent state budget, public school districts across the state have had to raise their property taxes to pick up the slack.

Judge Hannah Dugan’s trial starts today. I firmly believe she acted consistent with the law, and I know for a fact that she did what she felt was right, just as she always does.

WI Republicans don’t want state government to work, and continually take actions designed to break it.

The latest example: using an anonymous objection in the Joint Finance Committee to prevent $2 million in staffing and technology improvements to help process professional licenses more quickly.

Trump's tariffs are costing Americans a ton of money at a time when prices are already too high.

A Joint Economic Committee report found that from Feb through Nov, tariffs cost families an average of $1,200. If the tariffs in effect in November continue in 2026, that number will grow to $2,100.

WI's data center landscape is a bit like the Wild West. Instead of railroads and mining companies racing to profit on this new frontier, we have big tech companies and investor-owned utilities running roughshod over our communities.

Meet Jaciel Cirrus Rojas. A 24 year old father with no criminal record was swept up as “collateral damage” during an immigration raid in Racine. Despite a court order to release him since he poses no safety or flight risk, a Trump-appointed judge continues to deny his release from Dodge County Jail.

Today I was proud to join State Representative Robyn Vining and other colleagues in putting forward legislation that meets the needs of public schools across our state, ensuring a better future for our kids and fewer referendums going forward.

We work to make a living. We live for our families.

Too often, WI workers are forced to choose between a paycheck and their own health, or the ability to take care of loved ones when they need it the most.

It’s time to change that.

Unreimbursed special education costs are a top driver of the school referendum explosion in Wisconsin. The 2025-27 state budget was supposed to fund 42% of these costs for local schools this year and 45% next year - far short of what is needed, but a significant increase from where we were before.

The Trump Administration can't seem to do anything quite right - even when what they're trying to do is very, very wrong. It turns out their attempts to end DEI in college admissions might actually pose the biggest problems for men.

So much of what we call public safety spending in Wisconsin and across the U.S. is directed toward punishment rather than prevention. There are many problems with this approach, but the bottom line is that it simply doesn’t work.

Our American healthcare system is a disgrace. More than one-third of people who have health insurance have skipped or delayed needed care in the past 12 months because they don't think they can afford it. Among uninsured individuals, that rate climbs to three in 4.

With today’s tree lighting ceremony, it’s officially the holiday season at the State Capitol.

If you’re in the area, it’s well worth the trip inside to check out the beautiful decorations - many of which were created by Wisconsin schoolchildren.

You really gotta hand it to the Trump Administration - Secretary Pete Hegseth is being investigated for war crimes - and we're not even at war. It's almost impressive in a perverse sort of way.

We need leaders who follow the Constitution and who respect the tenets of the Geneva Conventions.

At the same time the President is ordering the illegal murder of dozens of people off the coast of Venezuela for suspected drug trafficking, he has pardoned the former Honduran president, who was serving a decades-long prison sentence for his role in - you guessed it - drug trafficking.
