When the state deprives people of their freedom through incarceration, it is our duty and moral obligation to ensure they are treated with dignity and respect and that their basic needs are met.

Sadly, that is not always the case. This package would help to rectify that.

However, the Trump Administration has appealed the ruling, and there is always the possibility they will try to cut off benefits at some point in the future if the shutdown is not resolved. Wisconsin DHS is doing everything it can to make sure SNAP (a.k.a. FoodShare) benefits remain available.

WI has still not received guidance on how to administer partial payments, so even if those are ultimately approved, it will be weeks, not days, before payments occur.

The bottom line is that Trump is playing games with people's ability to access food so he can play politics - that is reprehensible.

Somehow, giving $4 trillion in tax cuts to the richest Americans is politically viable for this Republican Congress, but making health insurance cheaper for millions of Americans and keeping 1 in 4 kids from going hungry is not.
