Eager to see what comes out of making Ottawa-Gatineau the host for Canada's Defence Innovation Hub. Led by the inspiring Sonya Shorey, I'm glad to see @mayormarksutcliffe.bsky.social and my colleague Councillor David Hill taking leadership roles on the Task Force. www.investottawa.ca/dihub/taskfo...

While I always think it’s decent to sympathize with families grieving the loss of a loved one, I would not set out to lionize Lowell Green, at least not without a more balanced commentary that recognized the well-documented and justifiable criticisms. 1/
I’m very sad to hear of the passing of legendary Ottawa broadcaster Lowell Green. I grew up listening to Lowell on CFRA and then became a colleague and friend for 20 years. He was a groundbreaking talk show host and proud Canadian.

In between coats while painting my son’s bedroom, I popped over to The Glens Winter Carnival. Grenfell Glen Park is always a lovely spot, all year round. 1/

This is an interesting idea. Pick a commercial area in Ottawa that could use more foot traffic, identify a vacant store, City retrofits it for bike parking. It's likely cheaper than building new infrastructure. Even as - dare I say - a pilot project. @sjamieit.bsky.social thoughts?
Downtown Ottawa could use an indoor bike lot in a vacant storefront that is unrentable without more foot and bike traffic.
The city has expanded its cycling network in recent years, and secure parking remains a critical puzzle piece. At the convergence of necessity and opportunity, this passage turns underperforming retail units into bike infrastructure, increasing its relevance while supporting the mobility transition.

Having spent most of my working life in transport policy, this is the essential truth that so many people - including politicians with responsibility for transport decisions - don’t or won’t get.

To reduce congestion, you reduce capacity and reduce speed. The empirical evidence is overwhelming.
If you widen that highway

you won’t reduce emissions

or congestion.

What you WILL do

is spend a lot of public money

to induce even more cars

emitting even more GHGs and pollution

in the same or worse congestion

with people still demanding that you widen the highway.

Period.

We're saying YES to housing in Ottawa. We're working hard to build more homes, and build them faster. To build more, we need more talented professionals working in the construction trades.

Hello @helps.octranspo.com, I'm an Ottawa City Councillor. I'd like to know whether this issue has been actioned, as you say it has. I've been at this bus stop, and the 82 does not appear on the electronic board. I'd appreciate a BlueSky response, and I'll send this same request by email.

I’m taking the morning off work while taking my daughter to her ringette game out in Richmond - go Nepean Ravens! Who do I bump into other than this handsome fella, my hard-working colleague Councillor David Brown. The guy is everywhere and everyone knows him.

This is the nightmare that all of Council and @mayormarksutcliffe.bsky.social fear most, when we lost the proven deterrent of Automated Speed Enforcement cameras. Thank God the child is still alive. 1/ ottawacitizen.com/news/baby-st...

So this was cool. At tonight’s Ottawa Sports Awards, I got to meet Canadian Olympian gold medalist Glenroy Gilbert (4 x 100m relay, Atlanta 1996), tonight’s winner of Male Coach of the Year.

This is good to see (and likely a reputable source 😉). Among major Canadian cities (pop. 500K+) Ottawa ranks #1. Among ALL Canadian cities, we rank #4. Some of the numbers don't seem right (transit time, avg. rent), but it's still good to rank so high. 1/ www.theglobeandmail.com/business/art...

I’m solo-parenting this weekend, with a full slate of kids’ activities to do, so I couldn’t make it to all the Ward 9 events taking place. But I managed to pop over to the Fisher Heights Winter Carnival - which had a great crowd - and bumped into my federal counterpart @anitavandenbeld.bsky.social.

It's not enough simply to strive to be "the most housing-friendly city in Canada"; the plan needs to be financially sound, recognizing that how cities grow determine whether they'll remain financially viable. Edmonton, once again, leads the way. 1/ www.ctvnews.ca/edmonton/art...
