Ottawa Deputy Mayor and City Councillor for Ward 9 (Knoxdale-Merivale). Proud husband and father of 4. Singer in a garage band.
And yet we’re expecting that traffic will flow smoothly when the new arena and stadium are holding events simultaneously at Lansdowne 2.0, as per the project’s rationale.
It’s absolute car f*ckery on Bank Street (Christmas Market and Santa Claus parade (along QED) convergence at Landsdowne)

Wow. When this is a line in the New York Times:

"Hours after Mr. Trump’s posts, including one that amplified a call to 'HANG THEM,' the White House press secretary denied that Mr. Trump wanted to execute members of Congress."

The past few weeks have been non-stop, and another month to go! Today started with an early breakfast panel discussion on affordable home ownership, and ends with a late community meeting on an infrastructure project. In between, committee budget meetings, resident casework, and so many emails!

It's very upsetting to read this headline, although not altogether surprising, based on recent events. We are now one step closer to losing one of the coolest things to have come to Ottawa in many years. And it didh't have to be this way. 1/ www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

This is a very informative take on the public relations "lessons learned" over Lansdowne 2.0. @evanhpotter.bsky.social has been very insightful on the Lansdowne, and he zeroes in the work that needs to be continue to hold certain decision-makers accountable.

Pretty proud of the game this Nepean Raven is having to help get her team to the gold medal game tomorrow.

Here’s the Tanglewood-Hillsdale Community Centre’s volunteer Building Manager talk about the 1,100+ community rental permits she issues per year, remitting $31,000 to the city (community keeps 50%). This is vital work that builds thriving communities.

The intro to Councillor @shawnmenard.bsky.social's weekly newsletter offers a nice summation of the frustrations a lot of us are feeling right now. Leadership at city hall should be focused on Ottawa's mounting challenges, instead it is creating very expensive new problems. #ottawa #ottcity

A sweet tradition at the Tanglewood-Hillsdale AGM is the awards presentation for best Christmas and Halloween decorations. Much less contentious than my update on Lansdowne 2.0 or the 2026 Budget.

Who else thinks that folks like @sjamieit.bsky.social and @pbickerton.bsky.social and everyone at @strongtownsottawa.ca should be nominated for an Order of Ottawa Award?
I've filtered Ottawa's traffic collision data to show only collisions with injuries for each year, and then added the speed camera locations present in those years.

It looks like speed cameras have made the roads much safer.

Today marks the end of the Automated Speed Enforcement camera program across Ontario. For anyone concerned about the impact of speeding on the safety of vulnerable road users, and who believes in data-based decision-making, this day is filled with frustration, disappointment, and deep concern. 1/

Lest we Forget. It was an honour to lay a wreath at the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Centrepointe Cenotaph. I thought of my grandfather, who served in WWII. With deep gratitude to all who have served, many of whom were present with us today.

I’m grateful to be at the launch event for Holocaust Education Month, hosted by the Centre for Holocaust Education and Scholarship. Tonight’s theme: “what we need to learn and relearn.” On the night of Kristallnacht and the eve of Remembrance Day, it’s fitting to remember this horror. #LestWeForget

As usual, @sjamieit.bsky.social and colleagues at @strongtownsottawa.ca know how to make a point. Take a look at this thread. One of the core principles of taxation is that the burden needs to be distributed fairly. What we have in Ontario currently is not fair.
Ontario property assessments haven't been done since 2016 and it's getting ridiculous. Suburban homes are paying much lower property taxes than they should be.

Annual property taxes:

I raised this with City of Ottawa staff last year. This kind of triple-use infrastructure (power generation + shade structure + heat island mitigation) is the kind of innovation that various levels of government should collaborate on to make it feasible.
“Starting at the end of November this year, public parking lots with more than 80 spaces will be required to install solar power generation facilities. This applies not only to newly constructed parking lots but also to existing ones.”

If the email inboxes of my Ottawa City Council colleagues who are supporting Lansdowne 2.0 (I am not) are anything like mine, then surely they’re wondering if this will hurt their re-election chances. This will be a ballot box issue. As for me, I’m clearly on the majority’s side.
