Ottawa Deputy Mayor and City Councillor for Ward 9 (Knoxdale-Merivale). Proud husband and father of 4. Singer in a garage band.
The past few weeks have been non-stop, and another month to go! Today started with an early breakfast panel discussion on affordable home ownership, and ends with a late community meeting on an infrastructure project. In between, committee budget meetings, resident casework, and so many emails!

Pretty proud of the game this Nepean Raven is having to help get her team to the gold medal game tomorrow.

Here’s the Tanglewood-Hillsdale Community Centre’s volunteer Building Manager talk about the 1,100+ community rental permits she issues per year, remitting $31,000 to the city (community keeps 50%). This is vital work that builds thriving communities.

A sweet tradition at the Tanglewood-Hillsdale AGM is the awards presentation for best Christmas and Halloween decorations. Much less contentious than my update on Lansdowne 2.0 or the 2026 Budget.

Today marks the end of the Automated Speed Enforcement camera program across Ontario. For anyone concerned about the impact of speeding on the safety of vulnerable road users, and who believes in data-based decision-making, this day is filled with frustration, disappointment, and deep concern. 1/

Lest we Forget. It was an honour to lay a wreath at the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Centrepointe Cenotaph. I thought of my grandfather, who served in WWII. With deep gratitude to all who have served, many of whom were present with us today.

I’m grateful to be at the launch event for Holocaust Education Month, hosted by the Centre for Holocaust Education and Scholarship. Tonight’s theme: “what we need to learn and relearn.” On the night of Kristallnacht and the eve of Remembrance Day, it’s fitting to remember this horror. #LestWeForget

Habitat’s CEO Sara Cooper spoke of the positive impact this has on participating families, contributing their own “sweat equity” to get past that hurdle of affordability. One mother saw her kids’ grades improve and completed her PhD after getting out of a stressful rental situation. 5/

“Our clients walk in with courage, and walk out with hope.” Inspiring message at the AGM of the Nepean Rideau Osgoode Community Resource Centre (NROCRC), an organization that means so much to so many Ward 9 residents. 1/

Great to be out at the Manordale-Woodvale Community Association’s AGM, to share news and take feedback from residents. Lovely to see Natasha Mott get an award for volunteering, and former councillor Keith Egli get an award for his 12 years of service.

The PWHL's delegates at Committee, Jayna Hefford and Amy Scheer, were superb ambassadors for the Charge and the League. All of Council should embrace the passion and excellence these two bring to our city. As compared to OSEG, the @pwhlcharge.bsky.social have demonstrated nothing but success. 2/

Anyone going to the Jays game tonight?

After a long two days arguing about how the city should prioritize significant investment in all facilities (like the Nepean Sportsplex) instead of concentrating on Lansdowne, it’s nice to end the day taking my daughter to her ringette practice at the Sportsplex. Go Ravens!

This photo of rookie Yesavage casually walking off the mound as future Hall of Famer and helmet-less Ohtani is still in motion striking out is everything. #WantItAll

I go to all of the Ward 9 community association AGMs. It’s always exciting to be at my own local neighborhood’s Trend Arlington Community Association’s big annual meeting. This year’s meeting focus is on getting the community to weigh in on climate action and community programming.

It was an honour to attend the bi-annual Nepean Sports Wall of Fame induction ceremony with several Council colleagues, as we heard the inspiring stories of several legendary Nepean athletes.

It’s great to see lots of residents out to learn about the upcoming intersection modification for West Hunt Club / Greenbank. Lots of good comments about this project that’s now scheduled for construction in 2027.

If you live in the Fisher Heights area and use the pathway around Gilbey Park, then you'll find this Facebook post of interest. In brief: I was able to get City of Ottawa staff to inspect and commit to repairing a heavily damaged section of this pathway. www.facebook.com/share/p/17Sr...

This is the 2nd time I’ve heard Edmonton City Architect Carol Belanger talk about procurement and design in his city. These are municipal buildings. They encourage excellence over cost, to get best value for residents.

And it’s great that Ottawa’s new Chief Planner Marcia Wallace is one of the guest speakers for today’s event, alongside some pretty exciting voices in Canadian architecture and urban design.

Great to be here with my team at Designing a Better City, organized by @toondreessen.bsky.social. This is an exciting conversation about how to make our city’s built form better, more sustainable and more beautiful.

Ottawa’s By-Law & Regulatory Services Department perform such a key responsibility to keeping our city safe, clean and livable. Was glad to join the Mayor, several Councillors, and Chiefs of Police and Fire in a ceremony recognizing the work of Director Roger Chapman and our By-Law staff.

I’m at the Fisher Heights & Area Community Association’s AGM where I just learned that their new logo’s green outline is a rough depiction of the area’s borders: from Merivale, to Baseline, to Fisher, to Meadowlands.

This is one of my favourite fundraisers to attend. As the leaders & staff of Nelson House say, a shelter for women fleeing domestic violence is the kind of organization that didn’t have to exist. Glad to see it has such strong and passionate leadership, and to be there with so many colleagues.
