@letsgomathias.bsky.social came on the show to explain #Antifa, how it exists as a boogeyman for the right, what kinds of activities they are engaged in, the difference between doxxing a teacher who practices inclusivity and doxxing one who wants to convert students into Nazi soldiers.

This Upton Sinclair quote never misses

“It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it.”
But can anyone tell me what this bit means? “For too long, those fluent in the good grammar of civility have deployed decorum to mask agendas of cruelty.”

i had a feeling this topic would be relevant in the coming year and gosh darn wouldn’t you know it,
For our first interview, we spoke with the great @bradvivian.bsky.social about his book campus misinformation, and boy, that topic remains one worth going through. Over the past year we have seen the government and its allies try to mangle higher ed, but people have bravely fought back too.

Over at @liberalcurrents.com you can find so many wonderful essays, but you can also find #HalfTheAnswer with @caitlinmoriah.bsky.social and I. We asked so many questions in 2025, and had so many excellent and informative guests on the program; who, you might ask? Well, we’re glad you asked. 🧵

i would not have been able to start a family with someone who couldn’t be cool to my friends, or wouldn’t accept me accessing reproductive healthcare, or wouldn’t support our kids if they were LGBTQ+ or loved someone who wasn’t white, or wanted to use corporal punishment, or wouldn’t let me work….
It's "politics shouldn't be such a big deal" and what they can't accept is that the politics of the moment are the problem not the attitude of the kids.

Roe was overturned three years ago! Politics are quite salient to relationships!
It's remarkable how consistently older media folks seem to think "wildly differing moral standards" shouldn't be a barrier to relationships.

Or really, shouldn't be a barrier for liberals. Because these are always a scolding of young liberal women.

the racism coming from the entire conservative movement targeting the somali community is so goddam disgusting and its just being completely ignored

look at how little effort it takes for someone on the conservative grievance circuit to destroy a life

millions of college kids have half assed an assignment at the last minute, you eat the F and move on

but the effort to push trans people out of public life will use whatever it can get

Since there seems to be a flurry of Yglesias discourse on here today, here is my take. He recently joined the moral panic over teaching about race--on the side of the racists. And he gets critical race theory wrong because he superficially engages with it.
A Tent Big Enough for Bigots but Too Small for Critical Race Theory
Like so many of critical race theory's detractors, Matthew Yglesias fails to engage with the actual scholarship.
