It is a neighborhood group: four people were kidnapped at the corner drugstore. A friend a mile away sends a Slack message: she was at the scene when masked men assaulted and abducted two people on the street. A plumber working on my pipes is distraught, and I find out that two of his employees were kidnapped that morning. A week later it happens again. An email arrives. Agents with guns have chased a teacher into the school where she works. They did not have a warrant. They dragged her away, ignoring her and her colleagues’ pleas to show proof of her documentation. That evening I stand a few feet from the parents of Rayito de Sol and listen to them describe, with anguish, how good Ms. Diana was to their children. What it is like to have strangers with guns traumatize your kids. For a teacher to hide a three-year-old child for fear they might be killed. How their relatives will no longer leave the house. I hear the pain and fury in their voices, and I wonder who will be next. Understand what it is to pray in Chicago. On September 19th, Reverend David Black, lead pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Chicago, was praying outside the ICE detention center in Broadview when a DHS agent shot him in the head with pepper balls. Pepper balls are never supposed to be fired at the head because they can seriously injure, or even kill. “We could hear them laughing as they were shooting us from the roof,” Black recalled. He is not the only member of the clergy ICE has assaulted. Utah was the first state where a woman legally cast a vote and Utah was the only state to ever revoke that right.

The sentiments at the time were similar to the ones in this article—a sense that if women didn’t vote the way men wanted, then men didn’t think they should vote at all.

Okay yeah lets do it, because it is an interview with two conservative women, which I think is getting missed in some of the drive by dunks. This isn't just Ross's normal crankery, its a window into a specific conservative project aimed at getting women to buy in.
But you’re both here, I’m sorry to say, as theorists. We’re going to try to debate your theories. Helen, you recently wrote an essay entitled “The Great Feminization” that attracted some commentary on the internet and argued, at least in my gloss, that feminism has failed us because it’s made our institutions too feminized, driving men and masculine virtues out. And Leah, you have a new book called “The Dignity of Dependence,” where you suggest that liberal feminism has failed us by forcing women to suppress their nature and fit into workplaces and social systems made for men.

But the police very soon had much bigger fish to fry, as out-of-state influencers swooped in to get in on the content-rich environs of the Portland ICE facility. On October 2nd, local police arrested Nick Sortor of Washington, DC, on suspicion of disorderly conduct. After Sortor was released the following morning, he told his 1.2 million followers on X that he had spoken to Attorney General Pam Bondi. (Bondi later opened an investigation into the Portland police.) Sortor, who was also invited to Trump’s roundtable on “antifa,” went on to publicly attack the Portland Police Bureau for being “Antifa-infiltrated,” an allegation that the Trump administration appears to be taking seriously — the word of an influencer being, apparently, much weightier than the thin blue line.

We don't necessarily need to take Fuentes' word for this, of course. It's possible he secretly harbored awful prejudices all along. In any case, he's achieved escape velocity. He's in conservative discourse now, and pretending he doesn't exist won't make him go away.

The resident said officers yelled at them in Spanish though they do not speak it. “This was five in the morning. They took me outside and hand-cuffed me,” he said. “They asked me where I was from. I said North Carolina. They said why do you live here? I said, because it’s affordable. They said, ‘Well you’re living with very bad people.’ That set me off because I immediately knew it was racial profiling. I knew the only thing I could do is talk in my American accent since they weren’t going to let me show my passport or license.”
