American Jews are more likely to believe that the state of Israel is guilty of genocide than to identify themselves affirmatively as Zionists. I wrote about what this tells us. www.jta.org/2026/02/09/i...
Zionism was never a single concept. We should be grateful to JFNA’s survey for the reminder. - Jewish Telegraphic Agency
A Jew can believe in a Jewish, democratic state and still doubt whether contemporary Zionism advances both of those commitments, writes a scholar of European Jewish intellectual history.

I get it, it's rational in a post 1/6 world, post US v. Trump world.

I also like to think about all the ways all his schemes and plots are mindbogglingly dumb

Difference now is that he's in power, not the loser who claimed to have been wronged, and he's complaining about something that happened more than five years ago and doesn't matter anymore because it's over and he actually became president again
February 9, 2026 at 10:25 PM
The other factor is that as his support declines/softens/plummets, people are less likely to find his increasingly not credible schemes scary or believable.

That's to say that evangelicals might say they disapprove but then always come back to him, either voting or supporting versus impeachment, etc.
Evangelical approval of Trump remains high, but other religious groups are less supportive
Roughly seven-in-ten white evangelical Protestants approve of Trump's presidential job performance. Other religious groups are more divided.

There seems to be almost nothing they wouldn't *try,* or at least float out a trial balloon, sure. But Maduro is charged with drug crimes, right? So he's going to admit to some other crime to get the drug charges dropped? Seems rife with ethical problems that courts/state bars would see

I actually compared that number to 2019, and it was the same 🤷‍♀️

plead guilty to a crime that a) he didn't commit and b) didn't even happen at all. Also a court would have to approve a plea deal. There are a lot of moving parts and we need to be aware of them rather than imbue Trump with magical powers.

I don't think we should ignore his threats, but I also think we need to point out when they contain absurdist elements that either make them unlikely to succeed, or unlikely to be bought by the public or the courts (wildcard: SCOTUS). However, with the Maduro thing, what lawyer would advise him to

OK, but Trump was president when the 2020 election happened, so isn't the notion that Venezuela interfered an indictment of his national security apparatus?
So I just listened to @ariberman.bsky.social articulate the same theory @jvl.bsky.social has: that there’s a real chance the Trump admin is going to lean on Maduro or offer him some sort of deal to say Venezuela did interfere in the 2020 elections.

what we're cutting:
health care
food stamps
preschool
environmental protections
international aid
scientific research

what we're buying:
Purchasing and converting these warehouse detention camps will cost the U.S. government billions of dollars. So far ICE has purchased at least half a dozen warehouses at a cost of $70-$110 million each. It'll cost billions more to refit them into detention camps, and hire staff.

I mean, seriously. The story they have here is that a poorly lip-synced rendition of Bawitdaba managed to activate a cluster of left-wing "terror cells" now posing a threat to their safety. Should put the rest of this -- claimed view counts, etc -- into perspective if it wasn't obvious already.
