The model was honed and perfected around the events of Jan. 6, as we saw yesterday.
The president is also signalling to his followers in and out of government what the party line on this horrific murder will be. That it's transparently false is almost beside the point. Indeed, publicly adopting the falsehood will fast become a loyalty test.
That he chooses the "me or your lying eyes?" approach, in the full knowledge that there are multiple videos out there, is a striking commentary on the nature of propaganda in the modern information environment.

This right here. There are so many bad actors and bad acts to blame for this nightmare, but one of the biggest is this: Stephen Miller cannot stand to have so many brown people around. And in our broken system, he is wildly empowered.
We need to get it lodged more firmly in the discourse that Trump and Stephen Miller are prioritizing removing nonviolent immigrants over public safety. They are sinking so many resources into their ethnic purification project that they're putting us in more danger.
