The idea that Democrats stopped calling Trump and Vance weird is itself the weirdest mass delusion on this website. They were calling them weird all the way to election day, and yet a cultlike belief has nevertheless spawned insisting that they did it for like a week then stopped.

There were gate guards who told us to stop (very politely) but my wife was fixated on the guns and got tunnel vision. I had to reach over and pull the parking brake before she rolled past

i mean, sure, but that is a rapidly dwindling number of people *because they keep doing shit like this*. this does not win new adherents, and it does not play well with all existing adherents, it is extremely net negative for the support of their ideological project
So the thing is that they don’t need to manufacture an alternate reality for everyone. This isn’t about convincing society at large. They just need to enchant the people who already agree with them to continue suspending their disbelief in the righteousness of participating in violent fascism.
