"[US representatives] drool at the opportunity to fund war and genocide, but when it comes to universal healthcare, affordable housing, and food assistance, they ... argue that we simply can't afford it."
“Imagine if our government funded our communities like they fund war,” was Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s said of the House’s passage of legislation that authorizes nearly $901 billion in military spending for the coming fiscal year, as tens of millions of Americans face soaring health insurance premiums.

I really hope all the other lawsuits against openai use the fact that they are licensing IP from disney to show that they're very much NOT licensing any other IP from everyone else
This quote is rich and verbatim confirms that Iger and Disney literally don’t see artists as creatives or creators.

It’s very funny to me that countries are trying to pass laws banning teens from social media until they’re older and can “handle it” as if the last decade hasn’t been about watching rich middle aged men nuke their brains on Twitter and then run the USA via shitpost.
Dude. Yes. Alito and Thomas are of course the standout examples, but all of the Republican justices have tells in their writing and their questioning indicating that they are, to varying degrees, marinating their brains in dumb bitch juice
My theory, fwiw, is that Supreme Court Justices are not immune to Twitter brain poisoning. I suspect all six have horrific information environments and have therefore lost the ability to understand the people who don't agree with them.

all of the shit about how if you allow people to transition kids are going to be peeing in litter boxes was just the mirror image of the reality: as soon as you enshrine immutable gender difference in law you're going to have legally required Lady Meals For Her

I spend so much time verifying everything now from art to cited sources to photos to historical references to citations to quotes to legal and medical information that it's really hard to fathom how much work AI has collectively added to the world, not reduced
Here's the reality this example illustrates:

It's not even just about people blindly trusting what ChatGPT tells them. LLMs are poisoning the entire information ecosystem. You can't even necessarily trust that the citations in a published paper are real (or a search engine's descriptions of them).

As anarchists, we reject the idea that judges or politicians should be trusted to determine who belongs in our communities.

This is not a question of how to interpret the Constitution or appoint better judges, but of how to defend each other from the violence of the state.

Movie you've watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode: no Stars (either War or Trek), LOTR, or Marvel.

I’ve probably *bought* Practical Magic more than six times. I can’t count how many times I’ve actually watched it.

The democratic party indoctrinates with glitz & high minded talk. The ones who stan politicians don't even look at their available records. It's how Kamala could evolve from top cop & prosecutor to the only one who can save democracy & why it's purity testing to point out what Gavin's really done.

We have got to learn from the GOP in this one thing. If they lose by a fraction less than they should have, they declare victory and double down. If we don't win everything the first time we try, we declare it impossible and give up.

KEEP FIGHTING FOR TEXAS
Texas is bluer RIGHT NOW than Georgia was in 2012. Forsaking the south is a moral and strategic mistake. Elevating disenfranchised voters across the country is one of the single most effective tools (with regard to electoral politics) we have for curbing the encroachment of fascism

There's a couple reasons so many IWW songs are set to the tunes of hymns and one is that the Salvation Army Band would show up and try to stop workers organizing by playing hymns to drown out speeches, so the Wobblies came up with words so they could sing along. SA has been trash all along.
It's that giving time of year again, so this is a reminder that no matter how they try to dress it up, the Salvation Army is not a charity.

An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.
