Dems introduced amendments to ban all cosmetic surgery for minors in every state that banned gender affirming care for youth. In every single one, Republicans voted it down and no one cared. This line of thinking won't actually do anything.

Is the issue with political ideology or with the genuine circumstance that a huge portion, perhaps a plurality, of the US electorate and media are beyond redemption(unable to be convinced or brought to heel by anything less than brute force.)
think that "epistemic pessimism" is a major and untheorized political ideology issue. many of us subscribe to largely implicit notion of US electorate and media as being beyond redemption

With NYU Langone desisting from offering trans care, I feel the need to re-up this recent paper about how ‘the evidence is low-quality’ arguments are bullshit and how we can do better when evaluating scientific evidence.
It took a hot minute, but I can finally share my new paper on evidentiary pragmatism in transgender health care!
In it, I propose a new principle for evaluating scientific evidence based on the best reasonably achievable evidence, avoiding the ‘catch-22’ where trans care can never be justified.

Is there any real explanation for why some countries have higher murder rates than others? Because any statistic I find I can also find plenty of counter factual statistics. Gun ownership, inequality, poverty, state capacity… none of them seem to line up.
