Hey, I wrote a book.

Did The Science Wars Take Place?

Covers the history and philosophy of a fight in the 80s & 90s between some postmodernists and scientists, with an eye to anarchist interests and lasting political influences among the far-right.

The very first linux command line tool I learned was pdftk (to make zines) and two decades later, after long periods without using it, I'm kinda proud that I can immediately pound out lengthy operations with it perfectly memorized.

i think this more than anything is what miller wants. vast detention camps with all of the suffering and death that means.
ICE has now spent over half a BILLION dollars just on purchasing warehouses around the country to convert into detention camps.

If these mega-camps are utilized to the full capacity ICE intends, they'll be the largest prisons in the country, with little real oversight. www.ajc.com/politics/202...

Some might read this as a political critique of the dire lack of security and corporate backdoors, or mere cultural nostalgia for IRC, but in reality Andrea only surfs the web using Lynx and Discord won't load on GNU Hurd. :P

I'm forever Team Nerd, but it's deathly embarrassing to watch nerds forever get sniped by "rules are the only thing that stop bullies, so we've got to cling to existing rules lest bullies eat everyone; society is complicated, so everything is a precious Chesterton's fence that must be preserved."

The one thing you've got to give to rationalists is they'll often be sufficiently earnest to post their astonishing ignorance in public view.

That said I still struggle to imagine someone too incurious to grasp "vast wealth centralization = power centralization."

Everyone rightfully decries this as utterly bullshit, given how many libertarians -- very much including Reason -- were utterly blind and/or complicit re Trump, but it's also true that liberals ignorantly and studiously built the state power he then seized.

Anarchists are the only ones without sin.
Weird. I tried to warn libertarians about Trump

ICE’s pending $30 billion budget exceeds the military spending of nearly every country, including Canada, Brazil, Mexico, and Iran.

ICE + CBP funding for 2026 would total $66 billion, higher than all but 7 militaries worldwide.
After a string of ICE murders, Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries proposed reforms — and $11 billion more for ICE.

Including reconciliation bill funding, the Schumer-Jeffries plan would give ICE a $30 billion budget, higher than all but 15 militaries worldwide:

The golden rice situation makes me *SO* sad.

It's estimated a THIRD of people worldwide are Vitamin A deficient, which can cause permanent damage to the eyes — in many cases full-on blindness.

We created a perfect solution to this problem, but oh no, it's "unnatural"
Same anti-science people who'd rather see people starve, than endorse GMOs. Because, hurr durr, Capitalism bad, science bad, therefore, hurr durr, golden rice bad and an unnatural abomination!

Anyway, Huemer being Huemer, I just want to note he literally said "if there are cases that almost never happen then it's not worth it to put the exception in there." and I'm just screaming about him proving my stuff in my book on him right.

Titles are both gifts we grant others in respect for them and detentes recognized in light of a thousand contingencies. A critical check-and-balance in anarchy is individuals dynamically reevaluating when a detente (granting a rich man his sweeping claims) becomes suicidal.
February 9, 2026 at 11:28 PM
Huemer wants there to be fixed enunciable universal social norms in the same way he wants there to be a single public registry of title that's "objective." And this reactionary brained instinct is simply not how anything works in reality; it's ultimately catastrophic.
February 9, 2026 at 11:27 PM
It's a mistake to use one word "property" to try to encapsulate all these considerations into some dead set of fixed acontextual rules. A freed market would see constant contestation and dynamic pressures along all dimensions.
February 9, 2026 at 11:26 PM
Anyway, property needs to be understood as a collapse of many dynamics around 1) autonomy, 2) agency, 3) utility re conflict, 4) utility re net capacity 5) utility re checks on power, as evaluated A) individually, and B) thru emergent social pressures.
February 9, 2026 at 11:25 PM
I dunk on Huemer a lot but he gets points for turning to rule utilitarianism (and endorsement of theft in extreme cases), yet it's a pretty severe backdoor for egalitarian considerations... including my insane "there are no objective titles, disagreement is inherent, fine, and necessary" stuff.
February 9, 2026 at 11:23 PM
This is the most productive public debate between an ancom and an ancap in all of human history so far.

But of course I have to interject that I already solved property a decade ago, and they're both clearly just groping towards my evaluation.
