Anarchist "exuberant." Really into exploring the roots of things and expanding degrees of freedom. Incurable woke moralist. Floating metal sphere. “Radically uncool.”

Hey, I wrote a book.

Did The Science Wars Take Place?

Covers the history and philosophy of a fight in the 80s & 90s between some postmodernists and scientists, with an eye to anarchist interests and lasting political influences among the far-right.

Update on Bari Weiss University

If I worked for any reputable organisation, I'd flag the use of '88' in any messaging, since it's an infamous neo-Nazi bullhorn, especially if your first reading list for 'Origins of 21st Century Right-Wing Thought' (w/ selections from Nick Land and Curtis Yarvin?)

Any beatings or shootings by ICE officers must be preceded by a brief land acknowledgment. Bottom line.

I may dog like crazy on the rationalists, but it's mainly because I don't think they're consistent or radical enough (eg anarchists). You will never hear me say "we should never think about the future and instead should abandon reason for magic and intuition."

If people want to talk about how we shouldn’t use opsec? Look at this Nazi monster.

Anarchists are your neighbors. Their kid goes to preschool with your kid. They are in class with you at the local community College. They are your coworkers, your friends, and your family members.

We don't just fucking spawn out of thin air if full black bloc gear anytime there's a protest
that is to say, there is no neat and universal mutual exclusion between "masked members of a black bloc" and "the local you know who is looking after their neighbour". sometimes, oftentimes even, these are the same person

Now I don't think there's great odds that Yarvin/Vance/etc will succeed in their explicit aspiration to just outright abolish all that court stuff, but it is worth noting that said ultimate intention is responsible for why they barely bother to remember the courts still exist.
Great read. An ICE attorney working for DOJ temporarily explains that ICE has no clue how all of this "federal court" stuff works and makes clear that both ICE and DOJ were totally unprepared for the flood of habeases that were the inevitable result of the Minneapolis raids.

I wrote a piece on intellectual humility and why it can be a problem to focus too much on attacking certainty rather than knowing when it is okay to be very confident about claims. I look specifically at problems in movement atheism and skepticism. Enjoy!
Intellectual humility doesn't require us to be open to absolutely anything being true - The Skeptic
Epistemic humility, and awareness of the limits of our knowledge, are good - but that doesn't mean we need to be open to every possibility

FYI

1) If you snitch on the people doing spicier direct action you don't win over normies but destroy a protest movement.

2) There are degrees and directions of privacy. A signal chat that the feds are 30% likely to get in and chuds are 10% likely to get in is more valuable than 100% exposed.

I will just continue to say, opsec does matter, now more than ever.

Please do not look to Johnny-come-lately "all the anarchists I don't like are feds, actually" adventurists for opsec advice.

Especially when they've spent the past 48 hours saying it's good and virtuous to snitch-record protesters

NGL, I think the liberal screeching of the moment is coz they sense this particular fascist wave has foundered and the positioning for the ratfucking has begun. They don't care about reducing the harm it does on the way out. They only care about getting control of that apparatus.

What it says to me is that if W*ll and Br*ce are to be believed, a very effective resistance network has decided that they are a threat or at the very least a potential threat, and decided not to trust them.

And that W*ll and Br*ce believe an outside authority should override that decision.

Good opsec is about keeping bad actors on the outside of sensitive communications and operations.

The resistance networks on the ground in MN are obviously very effective, and have (according to W*ll and Br*ce themselves) pushed W*ll and Br*ce outside their ops/comms. What does that tell you?

Known bad actors and misogynistic harassers from across the left/progressive spectrum are coming together to complain about on the ground activists using disciplined opsec.

And I *really* hope folks see this for what it is, which is career harassers opposing mechanisms intended to curb harassment.

NYT, once again, humanizing the worst people on this planet. Never learned from the Tony Hovater incident. The time spent on this article could have been spent featuring the people who actually care about their communities instead of people intent on destroying them for clicks and clout.
As an influencer, Nick Shirley had struggled to expand his reach. But after a missionary trip pushed him to try a new approach, he caused a sensation with a video claiming to expose fraud at Somali-run day care centers in Minnesota. nyti.ms/45GzJi4
